Journal abstract
Essentially, researchers have tied down one specific form of intersex to a mutation in the MAP3K1 gene. Presumably this will act as a springboard for further research - as well as meaning that some intersex people can have their condition tied down to the gene.
Reading the article, I can't help but wonder what's wrong with the term "intersex" - they seem to prefer using "DSD" (Disorders of Sex Development), which, while technically accurate, does imply a medical way of thinking - with the possibility of developing into the "do a bit of surgery, give 'em some drugs, and reconcile their physical development with their karyotype" approach. Interestingly, another term gets used at the end of the abstract: partial or complete gonadal dysgenesis.
The abstract is interesting (if you can understand it!) - apparently this gene is based on chromosome 5, so it's entirely possible some intersex people may have a completely 'normal' pair of XX / XY chromosomes, with the developmental changes due to mutations on other chromosomes.

Unless I completely misinterpreted the article, the research orginates from India, so the difference in language may simply be cultural.
