Just got my new Mac. :) I'll probably be playing with it the next couple of days. I used the Firewire connection to my old machine to configure it and it's ready to go. :)

I hope all your old software works. Apple has changed OS and Processor so much that it made a lot of programs obsolete.

It's an iMac Core 2-Duo with 20 in. screen, 2 Gig of ram, 500 gig HD and 256 meg video card. :) I got it through my brother who works for Apple so I got to use one of his family discounts. :)

I've got a 17" iMac ...
Duo Core, 1 GB RAM, 160G HD and a 1.67 GHz Powerbook G4 with a 15" screen, 1GB RAM and an 80 GB HD. My son has an iBook he saved his Hanukah and birthday money for six years to buy, and my daughter has a new MacBook Pro she bought with college money set aside for just that purpose -- her old iBook died, and we took pity on her, since she's going away to college next year.

Mac census ongoing...
iMac Core Duo 20", 2Gb RAM, 256Gb hdd, but with nearly a terabyte hanging off it in external drives, and a secondary 20" apple cinema display (actually bought earlier). I don't use the apple keyboard and mouse though as they exacerbate RSI problems. So Unicomp for clackity-buckly-springy goodness, and a bluetooth Logitech mouse. Is also my day-job machine and my television, as I don't actually own one; I watch dvds and digital television on the Mac, but I do neither very often.
And a Powerbook G4 1GHz (Titanium) with 1Gb RAM, starting to look a little aged now, but still usable for pretty much everything I do. (Which is a problem as I want to get a MacBook but can't justify it to myself.)
And a Mac Mini G4 1.42GHz with 1Gb RAM, which is currently running Linux in a colo centre in Docklands, being my web server and a few other things besides.
And an Airport Express connecting me to the world... And I persuaded my dad to buy an iMac (when the G5 was the current model), and I gave my sister a Powerbook Pismo, so I don't have many family-IT-support calls!
slimv: Software all works great. Most of the good stuff is free anyway; Firefox/Thunderbird et al. NeoOffice (really OpenOffice.org) is now Aqua-based and purdy, but a little late as I'd already switched to this for my writing.

Great choice Erin, I'm playin with my new 2.1gHz DuoCore Mini ( ya I know apple isn't shipping 2.1 gHz minis, but intel is shipping the faster chips, yes I'm a geekgurl), and just for the PC luvers I loaded XP, so I guess my mac is now PC. Cuts down on the desktop clutter. The old PC went to the scrapers as soon as the new mini showed up.

I think this brings the total of my computers to nine, though I may have missed one of the little scapers hiding in a cabinet. This is not counting my Mom's machine. :)

I've got the rest of you beat all to heck when it comes to old Macs!
I have an oooooold Mac Performa 600 series running a 68k processor, 3.5" floppy and one of the first to have the CD player.
I bought a 7400 upgraded to a G3 processor, but the Zip drive stated to give me the "click of death" to my Zip discs, so I had to shut it down.
Luckily, I have Internet access through a local university which use the new G5s (everything in the monitor: CPU, CD/DVD drive, etcetera.
The only thing I use the old girl for are a few games and word processing using Word 5.1 -- I don't need the bells and whistles, and can't stand the fact the new programs eat up too much memory.
Computer Envy
While I have several computers, I still feel a bit of envy. And all I want is a newer Mac Mini. **SIGH** No money in budget! We do have a recent Dell desk top, a Mac Mini, A Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop, a junky HP desktop and an I Series IBM laptop. I guess a good collection for two people to work on but all low end machines.

An imMaculate choice...
Congratulations Erin. My iMac (20" iMac G5 2GHz, 1GB RAM, 230GB HDD) is only just over a year old, but I'm still envious. I love my pretty Mac, but I didn't like the standard keyboard or mouse.
I'm a fast touch-typist, and I just couldn't get along with the rubbery feel of the Apple keyboard. I switched to the Matias Tactile Pro (http://matias.ca/tactilepro/) which has a much better feel, and looks Apple-cool too.
I find the standard Apple mouse seriously uncomfortable. I'm sure there are better mice out there, but I prefer a trackball, and you just can't go past the Kensington Expert Mouse® range. They *are* a little pricey (especially compared to mice), and they look a bit PC-ugly rather than Apple-pretty, but the balls are bigger and heavier (a good thing), and the bearings much smoother than on cheaper trackballs. Oh, and they are covered by a five-year warranty too.
I have no financial interest in Apple, Matias or Kensington BTW, but I am a happy customer.

I've installed WinXP Pro on my new Mac using Boot Camp. Works like a charm except if you let it sleep itself in Windows it messes up the video. Runs city of heroes like a champ. :)
