I saw the current issue of ESPN-The Magazine at the bookstore today, and the last page, which always has a column by Bill Rielly (formerly at Sports Illustrated) contained a very nice eulogy for the transgendered sportswriter who killed herself (himself?) a few months back. It seems Rielly and his wife had taken her under their wings after she started transitioning, having been friends with him before. I'll try and go back and pick up a copy tomorrow if I can, but it is the one one the newsstand right now, they have two issues a month. It was very touching, and had me wiping my eyes.
Worth checking out.

If I understand correctly,
the correct pronouns was "himself" as he had "detransitioned" at the time of death, and was presenting as a male. I recall a discussion thread on this topic on another site.
His ending is sad, and I doubt any of us really know why the end came.

It must be all that much harder when they have a high profile job like that, all the much worse in mens sports. Many years ago I used to correspond with a (then) well known mens magazine writer in LA that felt he was TS but felt there was no outlet or future for him due to his job and visibility. I cannot fathom how trapped he must feel.

A Lot Of Us Can Identify
A lot of us can identify with Christine's reason for transitioning. I told my family the same thing about feeling like I would die if I didn't transition. We all know too well, that family pressures come into play during the transition. Loved ones think that it is somehow about them or they insist that you live your life to make others happy. I suspect that someone in her family came down so hard on her that she could no longer cope with day to day existence. It is so sad. I wonder if they even feel any remorse over what happened to her? Maybe it might just get through to someone that they don't want to see anyone else go through the suicide of a loved one and resolve to help others going through transition. If that happens, maybe her death would not be in vain. It is like the Pastor said. The world bears a lot of the responsibility for what happened to Christine.
