Does anyone happen to know of a host, in other words a site that can provide (free or paid for) web space for someone who wishes to setup their own personal transgender fiction site?

Be specific

You'll have to be a little more specific. The fact that you're posting your question here implies that you are thinking of something different to the normal communal resources.

I would guess that if you pay your money, you can get a hosted website almost anywhere. Assuming that the stories you wish to post don't break any laws either where you are, or where the website is hosted, it shouldn't matter a rat's ass what you put up there. That's what you pay money for.

Best of luck,

Penny

PS I use these guys but that might not be relevant to you.

web hosting

You could send a Private message to Piper here through BCTS. She runs ppf and offers web hosting. Not sure what she charges, but Crystals and lil brats, and a bunch of others, and a lot of stuff outside the tg/ts community host with her. Yes, a couple of her sites were hacked in the past and took some of her stuff down for a short period while she repaired and even replaced some equipment. She has just finished replacing one of her servers with more modern stuff to provide better service, (I think that is the last of the older stuff she had) and has not had any problems in quite a while. And on top of that, she's good people.

Hosts

What I have discovered is that it appears that compromises exist out there in hosting land.

Very often, space isn't an issue, however bandwidth might be.

A site that I write for has the bandwidth problem and compromises have been made in order to lower the bandwidth, although I sometimes wonder whether that is not to the detriment of the site. Bandwidth can have subtly different meanings depending upon which side of the business you're viewing from, but in this case, it's the net amount of data throughput. In simple terms, the busier the site, the more bandwidth you need and the more you can expect to pay.

You can expect a story site to have low bandwidth requirements to begin with and I would imagine if you do not have active server pages like Sapphire used to have, then you can expect to pay very little. If on the other hand, you anticipate having counters and active server stuff like the Drupal site that Erin is running, it's probable that you can expect it to cost.

If you are prepared to pay, there won't be a problem.

I guess the fact is, you pays yer money and takes yer choice.

Erin Has the TG Library

It's design per the About page to:
"TG Library is intended to be a home for authors who want more control over the display of their stories than even BigCloset, StarDust or TGFiction.net offers them. Here, each author can have her own page and be the boss of it."

You need to contact Erin via PM here (BCTS) if you want to sign up.

Well, at shadowgard.com, I

Well, at shadowgard.com, I pay for hosting (more than at a lot of places, admittedly) but as long as the content is legal, the hosting service doesn't give a damn about *content*.

They do care about bandwidth, so no music and no "adult" graphics as those tend to eat bandwidth alive.

How much space do they need? I've got far more disk space than I need currently, and I've got a couple other authors that I set up with accounts in my domain.

Contributing towards the twice a year fees would be appreciated though.

Say the word and I can set you up an account. It uses the WordPress blogging software so there are tutorials out there on how to set things up and it's very flexible.

Hugs,
Erin
