Taxonomy upgrade extras:
Bob and I will be experimenting with a new server configuration (not with the current BC server) over the next few weeks. If things work out well, we expect to be able to increase BC speed and reliability to a noticeable degree. Wish us luck. :)
The new server, a bargain at about $800 including some upgrades on a machine I bought last year, will be co-located at the LA server farm later this week and Bob will take his remote digital hammers and try to pound it into shape. I'll help by holding the metaphorical allen wrenches and duct tape. :) The colo is prepaid for six months for a total expense of about $1400 so far. Like I said, a bargain compared to the $2600+ I had thought this would cost me.
If this works out, we may colo another server there, even more powerful than this one for a cost of about $1000+colo, and drop the current BC server which is rented for $157 a month. Colo is cheaper than that by about 45%.
Don't expect much more news about this for a week or two, but I've been burning the new server in for the last two days here at my house and it runs sweet. :) Will carry it to LA on Friday, or that is the plan at the moment.
Hugs to all,
Erin

It's alive ... almost
Dr. Frankenstein: For the experiment to be a success, all of the body parts must be enlarged.
Inga: His veins, his feet, his hands, his organs vould all have to be increased in size.
Dr. Frankenstein: Precisely.
Inga: [her eyes get wide] He vould have an enormous schwanzschtücker.
Dr. Frankenstein: [ponders this a moment] That goes without saying.
Inga: Voof.
Igor: He's going to be very popular.

Hope Everything Works Out
You and Bob have been doing a great job keeping the site running. It seems to be more stable and generally faster than it was in the fall. Hopefully the upgrades will allow you to reduce the amount of manual intervention that you have had to do recently.
