Sometime during the evening of January 31, 2009, TopShelf will register the five millionth visit in a period of three years, seven and one half months. Also, that day is likely to see BCTS to go over 1/3 million (333,333) visits for the month of January.
Thanks to Bob Arnold, mostly, the site is running well and seems more stable than it was in October when traffic was only ~195,000. This traffic increase is mostly due to FictionMania's troubles, first with a broken server, then with one held hostage by customs. Don't ask, I don't know any details. :)
As soon as FM comes up, I'm expecting a 20-40% drop in traffic and another 5-10% drop when Crystal and Sapphire get their operations back to regular updating. In the meantime, there are some new sites out there, trying to take up some of the slack.
Piper is running TGFiction.Net which has been around for a while but is newly invigorated with new software and new stories. TgLadies.com and TransFictionRoom.com are both new and accept story submissions, so perhaps something good will come out of the downtime by widening the infrastructure of our community.
Despite a few hiccoughs and some minor contretemps, we seem to be doing well. :)
Hugs to all,
Erin

Based on past experience...
Canada has been very strict about the importation of sexually-explicit materials, which I know a little bit about in relation to feminist and lesbian bookstores, and I remember hearing (somewhere) that the new server contained their database, which might well cause problems if anyone troubled themselves to look.
In the meantime, their mirror site *appears* to be up and running, and allows searches by author and story title.

From the looks of that address, this may all be dicey, but it might offer some relief to the BC server if it became more widely known...

Jealousy
Well Erin, I can honestly say I'm jealous. I really wish I were the one announcing such a milestone, but I don't think it could have gone to a better person. Congratulations in your sites success and I know you/it will be around for years to come :)
