you have us blushing!
And, if you're in Quebec,
And, if you're in Quebec, hopefully moving day wasn't too stressful.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
Thanks
It’s kinda funny but it completely forgot it was Canada day today & didn’t know until I got to the closed grocery store this evening. …. I actually thought the current month was may lol.

The importance of being informed
I almost starved in Austria on an August 15. Finally I found a Chinese restaurant that was open.
A more obvious glitch was done by a collegue of mine who, during a period of intense contract negotations, called a French company on two days including July 14 and a US company on two days including July 4th. Easily solved by switching the companies but the whole things showed that national days often aren't that well-known abroad.
PS
August 15 is not Austria's national day but another holiday that Austrians spend en famille.
August 15
That one should be known well enough to anybody who has contact with catholics. And it is observed in many countries, so it shouldn't be a surprise (as opposed to national holidays that are often unknown outside of that country).
Except, I believe, that
Except, I believe, that Austria has lots of Lutherans. So, you also can't make the assumption that someone's going to meet lots of Catholics. (For that matter, I don't know how much hispanic Catholics celebrate that)

Austria vs. religion
It's predominantly roman-catholic, although the numbers are going down:

Different degrees of observance
I was aware of the holiday. What I hadn't expected was the total "lock-down". I had experienced the holiday in several other catholic places, including Vienna when I come to think about it, where observance was quite different from that Austrian town.
August 15
Why would Austria celebrate India's Independence Day? As a non-Christian, I had to look up the date to find out that it was also the date of the Assumption of Mary.
Well, why do Canadians
Well, why do Canadians celebrate Quebec's Moving Day? :)
