This is about a Canadian Christian Colony but it is not about their religion. They are called the Fort Pitt Hutterite Colony and they grow all sorts of grains on the Canadian prairie. When I write a story I try to make it sweet and romantic, with the characters having kind relationships, free from abuse.

I especially like the colorful, pretty dresses the women wear. I don't have direct experience with them. Sadly, I can not join their community. I hope that you enjoy this video.

Overly romanticized Hutterites

Having researched Hutterites for a major college sociology paper I need to write a few words here. Hutterite life is not a bowl of cherries. They are very different from main stream culture.

One important difference is education. Most education stops as soon as legally possible. Girls education is focused cooking, cleaning, and child care. Boys education focuses on farming. A select few males get a high school level farm machinery course. 1 or 2 males a generation get a community college level theology education. These become both the spiritual and temporal leaders of the colony.

The major difference is cultural. In the Hutterite Bruderhof there is no I. Identify is communal not individual. All work is group based. Tweens and low teens do most child care while Mom and Dad are working elsewhere. Infants are tended but alone most of the day.

Hutterites are kin to the Amish, Mennonite, and German Baptists theologically. Amish reject modern society and technology. Mennonite reject modern society. German Baptists live within modern society and technology but hold them selves apart by dress and custom. Hutterites embrace modern farming technology but isolate them selves from society.

The concept of romance is alien to them.

My Own Life, Not a Bowl of Cherries.

I don't know if I am an Introvert, or simply learned to be that way. Romance has mostly been absent in my life, though those who needed something from me found a reason to have me around. I was raised by an Amish man who was extremely abusive. I can't be Hutterite because I am post op MTF. Perhaps mostly I just liked the women's clothing.
