Perhaps of all the woman I 'wanted' to be, she was the only singer who I tried to copy, albeit by myself. Silly, but I'm in tears over the loss a a friend I never met?

She was so much a part of my young adulthood musical world.
To me her singing was measured dynamic if there is such a thing. To me her cover of 'I don't know how to love him' had a far better quality than the somewhat harsh edged version of Yvonne Ellerman's original rendition which was pure passion but at the same less of the determined force that Helen's had.
As more and more of the stars of my youth die the more the years seem to slip away.

Everybody loved her. In later years she went to live on Norfolk Island, which is just about as far from the bright lights as you can get.
RIP Helen. "Peaceful" is appropriate.
FWIW...
...it's been some years since I last had it out, but I'm pretty certain that on the album cut and/or the 45 B side she sang that middle verse:
"I had a song while (out?) on the run and its love brought a tear to my eye
And maybe one day you'll up and say we had a pretty nice time, oh my..."
Kenny Rankin did write the line as you showed it. Apparently (according to one of his CD collections) he really did have a son while on the run, commuting from a gig as a backing musician in Las Vegas back to the East Coast when his wife went into labor, and when after about a day they'd concluded it was a false alarm he headed back to Vegas, and the baby was born before he landed. (His next line: "And maybe someday he might say that I'm a pretty nice guy...")
I enjoyed her music, though I do think "...watch me grow/see me standing toe to toe/as I spread my loving arms across the land" is one of the more grotesque images I've come across in pop music. Especially followed by "but I'm still an embryo..."
