It's the only holiday in August, my birthday. :) I'm 72.
I'm thankful for a lot of things in my life and one of those is BigCloset which I have been operating, with the help of friends, for almost 21 years.
It's fun and I'm convinced it helps keep me young, despite the occasional stress. :)
I'm kind of passed the age at which I expect birthday presents, but if there is anyone out there who would like to know that they made me smile, they can send a gift through the Hatbox via the links in the right-hand column of this page.
I haven't updated the amount in the thermometer box for July yet, we did make our goal but just barely. And we've got some money in from Patreon and some other gifts, so, right at the moment we don't have any big bills hanging over our heads and keeping me up at night.
What would be a wonderful birthday present would be if this were the only time in August that I had to come here asking for money to keep BigCloset going.
Everyone, please enjoy the holiday (family joke). And if you can help with our finances, thank you.

Thank You
Welcome to 72. I've been here for since late January and have spruced things up a bit for you. I'm happy to serve as your advance team.
My favorite priest when I was young was a kindly human being of German descent. He didn't abuse anyone. His main vice was his ability to get people to donate money.
All he wanted in life was to be a parish priest, tending to his flock.
The bishop needed him to go into financially struggling churches and apply his talents.
His success as a fund raiser constantly got in the way of doing what he became a priest to do.
Late in his life, I ran into him in a small town parish. I was there to inspect his church for a fire insurance policy. The bishop had finally granted him his wish as a pre-retirement gift. He was finally happy.
You're a wonderful person who isn't gifted as a fund-raiser. And - that's probably a good thing.
Happy birthday!

I went out to the junkyard
Told them I was looking for a window mechanism for a 1956 International. There were several other auto mfg assemblies would work with a few changes in moving the articulating lever. Ahh, they are smart in modern cars 1960 and up but the real classics they haven't a clue. They told me to go look. And so I did, behind every back seat in thirty seven cars. I found a lot of goodies so I'm boxing them up and sending them to you for your birthday. Talk about going the extra mile for a girlfriend. I mean how many girls get a few lug nuts, a crescent wrench, three screwdrivers, four ponytail holders, the good kind with little marbles on the ends. I'm not going to name all the goodies, it would spoil the surprise.
When's the party? I'm coming by for cake and ice cream. If you don't have any lawn darts let me know I'll bring some. I don't have any helium to fill the party balloons but I have hydrogen. It wasn't my fault Brenda's boyfriend was trying to light his cigarette when one of the helium balloons drifted his way. The fire department saved the house and the doctors said his face wasn't scared so bad they had to replace his lips. I think it gave him character. He never was good looking anyway.
Loan me your teal green dress for the party. Samantha is still made at me for getting oil and grease all over her blue dress and isn't going to loan me any more dresses. How was I to know one of the hydraulic hoses was going to pop as the highway maintenance guy offered me a rid on his asphalt spreader?
Party Time, Happy Birthday Kid, Hugs and all that. We ain't kissing, I'm not that kind of girl.
Love you sugar

Thanks, but you must already have the green dress, because it isn't in my closet anymore. :)

Happy Birthday
And I'm glad you got to celebrate it in the house you still have + not the high school gym or the Red Cross tentor wherever they put people who lost their home in the fire. That's something at least...

Yes.
The firefighters have done a good job. You can see the fire burning in the mountain from my driveway but it is miles away.

ok dumb idea
maybe an author or three could write short stories on consignment sharing or donating the proceeds. the dumb part is im not sure how this would shake out and i am not truly an author just spout the occasional prose sort of like a whiz

Stories
Several authors do this already by writing and contributing their proceeds from Kindle sales directly to BigClooset. About half of the books DP publishes are just such gifts.

Ain't it the truth?
"Young and foolish" is a tautology, too often. :)

Happy Birthday, Erin.
Personally, I stopped aging at 29, until my eldest son got to 30, and I figured it was weird to have a son older than me, so I moved up to 39. When he reaches 40, I suppose I'll have to go up another ten years. Such a hassel.
