So, in todays photo blog I visit some archaeology and pretty much stumble into some wildlife on my walk!

With the weather in the mid 20's for almost a week now, the weekend's activities were pared back some - well all things being relative, Saturday was to include visiting a pre Roman fortified site and then a long barrow which would act as my lunch stop. Why haven't I done this before? Well officially these sites have been closed to the public due to Covid restrictions so good girl that I am, I've stayed away.

Horton Camp was therefore my first stop, not a lot to see but a classic 'hill fort' location on the edge of the Cotswold massif. Then it was a return to two wheels, a quick stop at Starveall Long Barrow with views to the Somerset Regiment Memorial before continuing through Tetbury to reach Rodmarton Long Barrow. A relaxed lunch stop and explore in total isolation then it was the long haul back across the Cotswolds with the briefest of stops at Badminton Long Barrow before completing the ride.

Sunday, hike day, I decided on a shorter excursion than of late, partly due to the weather but also because shopping on the way would rob me of an hours walking time. First stop was Church Farm colliery in Mangotsfield, the winding house is quite photogenic, then after shopping for lunch and a few other bits, I continued on to Brandy Bottom colliery and shortly afterward my lunch stop in a meadow of tall grass and buttercups. After eating I climbed up to Pucklechurch where I had several wildlife encounters before making my way back to Brizzle.

There are more critters to spot today, a mystery bird, a couple of flutterbies as well as the enthralling encounter with the 'red dog'! As always your comments are actively solicited.

This week the weather is due to break so the programme may reflect the need to adapt but tomorrow at least, I shall be looking out more archaeology for your, and of course my, entertainment!
