Now my question. Is there a relation to kink and us, or is are we generally more inclined to the kink scene?

The 'kink' scene and the TG community.
I think that much like everything that is not 'one standard deviation from the mean.' :P I would say that these may colloquially be grouped together by convenience. As society pushes out to include further 'sigmas', the distinctions become more defined. Transgender and homosexual used to be equated in common speech. The distinctions among these and others have, and will continue, become ingrained in society as the stereotypes and preconceptions are supplanted. I think the social mishmash of what you call 'kink' and what I term as 'transgenderism' (though probably more specifically crossdressing) was one of convenience, that will follow the same culling and delineation. I do think that a percentage of the TG community participates in what you call 'kink', the two just aren't as inextricably linked as our society may suggest.

Commonality
As somewhat outcast communities kink and TG have a lot of commonalities. Both have a healthy disdain for what general society thinks. Both give individuals the right to choose for themselves. Both promote respect for those individual choices. Once one has chosen to join either TG or kink it becomes much easier to join the other because of these commonalities and having crossed common barriers erected by general society.
Kink. No commonality with TG.
In the period of 2004 to 2007 I 'tried' to be involved with the Kink scene and thankfully a tranny in her late 50s is not in demand in those circles. I felt extremely guilty due to my very conservative religious background. Can my very abusive childhood have played a role in it? That is doubtful.
While I never committed a crime, the draw to Kink was exceedingly strong, mainly focused on Corsets and Bondage and Discipline. Driven by guilt, I found a retired urologist that took my male gonads out. I had hoped that the absence of Testosterone would kill the sex drive, MtF transition was NOT my original intention. It was when the Mental Health folk got hold of me that all that happened.
I never did find anyone to "spank" me, other than the one time, and these many years later, I have heard that the FBI goes after those "spankers" with a vengeance. IMHO, a properly administered spanking is a nearly divine thing, putting the recipient into a sort of Subspace. Sadly, some twits, thinking more highly of their abilities than they ought have severely injured or perhaps even killed some.
I'm thankful, that at 72 years of age, I seldom have a sexual thought ... probably twice a year, and it comes unbidden. "Out, out brief candle !!!"
Kink vs TG Spectrum
Kink is a learned behavioral set. TG is a basic part of a persons core being. Nature vs Nurture basically. As such they can overlap in the same individual but are not linked otherwise.
