The Forced Fem and Humiliation Society of Wales. Look at how many of the stories trick or coerce the boy into wearing girls clothes, girl's school uniforms, getting their hair cut in a girl's style, and so on. Along with simple monitary extortion.

Wales has a long history of chaps donning frocks, from Twm Sion Catti (our version of Robin Hood... he stole from everyone and kept it for himself), to Merched Beca (Daughters of Rebecca - chaps who wore women's clothes to destroy turnpikes). There was a village punishment called the Ceffyl Pren (wooden horse) where wrong doers were paraded around the community tied to a wooden pole, often in women's clothes. It's in the blood :)

Hello Alys,
As a reader, I would like to say a big thank you to all the Welsh writers for ‘taking over’ the BC with such great stories. Just don’t start singing as well.
As I live in Portsmouth, I can only say commiserations to Cardiff in the FA Cup, perhaps some of them should go back down the mine.

I can give up on learning how to cook welsh dishes.Well probably not there pretty tasty.I have no welsh but I am euro mutt with Irish and Scotch in my blood and some English and Swede.As for the conspiracy I figure it's to keep us all so busy reading your storys we can't find time to finish our own.Amy

A Swede, Amy, is a vegetable

A Swede, Amy, is a vegetable that you probably know as a Rutabaga. It is called a Swede in England, Wales, the Antipodes, India, etc. For some strange reason in Scotland we call this member of the turnip family A TURNIP! or a "NEEP" (supposedly a shortening of TurNEEP!) Living in England now (like Gabi) I now have got used to calling them Swedes.

Thanks for the info Hilary.After your explanation and checking wiki I realized I should have known what they are.Turnips are popular in my family and we use them for New England boiled dinners and stews.I've never thought to use them in mashed potatoes before but I'm sure I'll try them now.At the supermarket they do have swedish turnips and here we simply call them turnips.Thanks again Amy

New England Boiled Dinner?

I am intrigued, Amy, so you can now educate i "higgerent Scot"! Please tell me more. BTW on Burns' Nicht (25th January) the menu often says "Haggis wi' bashed neeps and chappit tatties" meaning Haggis with mashed turnips and mashed potatoes. The dram of Scotch is poured over the haggis as gravy. Mmmmmm! I have heard it said that on the afternoon of Burns' Nicht in Scotland, the atmosphere is rank with the smell of boiling turnips, in fact one might say there is a "neep in the air"!

I'm longing to hear about New England Boiled Dinner.

New England Boiled Dinner consists of a piece of corned beef brisket boiled in a pot with cabbage, potatoes and carrots. My mother is a native of Massachusetts and so I grew up eating it. It is really delicious!

New England Boiled Dinner

1 Seagull, tenderized with a ball peen hammer
1 lb new potatoes
4 sticks cellery, chopped
i head of cabbage, quartered
2 bricks (to weight the seagull down in the pot)
1 large stewpot, about 2 1/2 gallons

Just to be certain, hammer the seagull again.
Fill pot with water, liberally salt it, bring to boil.
Add seagull, maybe hammer it a bit more first (they are sort of tough and stringy)
Add the bricks to weigh the gull down.
Add the vegetables.
Boil all day long, add water as needed.
When the bricks are tender, toss the gull, eat the bricks.
Oh wait, sorry that was my recipe for New England Boiled Seagull.

Avoiding the use of a ball peen hammer

You can use the hammer for the excercise or you can do it the easy way which is to simply feed the Seagull an alka sceltzer.Since they can't burp they blow which really helps to tenderize the meat and as an extra benifit prevents upset stomach from eating to much.Lol Amy

I reckon Triffid must be a Welsh word and for those old enough to remember they were pretty much like a giant leek or spring onion, but mobile. And they took over the world!!
What really scares me is not just the sheer number of these Welsh ladies proliferating on our computer screens like some diabolical computer virus in pointy hats but their productivity. They turn out multiple skeins, no, reams and quires (choirs) of stories with gay abandon, leaving no room for poor struggling Anglo-Saxon girls to squeeze in the odd short story (of 500 words or less), and the QUALITY. By what right do they dare to be of such high quality that the rest of the BCTS pantheon is driven to the depths of darkest despair, dismayed by their literary skills.
We are all doomed, doomed I say. Run and hide while you still can or be blinded by the dazzling incandescence of their talent.

We can't figure out where John Brown, the family patriarch, came from in the UK or when.

It was sometime between 1840 and 1850 -- US Census records -- and no, he was not the same man portrayed holding a rifle in his outstreched arm as lighing flashed across the heavens. He was not THAT big a rabblerouser, ans was nevber near Harpers Ferry as far as we know though we think he had three wives, not at the same time, I hope.

He was from Yorkshire, or Cornwall or some where in south or central England or Wales.

Maybe I have it right in my Whateley famfic and he was on the run from the law.

That could make him Welsh. And I do like leak and potato soup and Terry Jones of Python fame.
