Hello readers of TBC,

I sadly have to say that there won't be a part 18 of "The Lokian Way" this weekend.
Although I nearly have reached my usual word count I will not upload what I have.

The reason is that this update will be one choke full of details about the past and the magic in Mercy's world.
I already wrote nearly all of Mercy's school trip to the wax museum of famous magicians.
However, the plan was it to pair up with Mercy's next trickster group meeting.
Sadly none of it I wrote yet.

I actually spend most of my time not writing but researching background information.
That means when part 18 will come out, it will have more meat on its bones than my usual parts.
Story-wise and word count-wise.
It also means that given my writing speed that will be probably next Sunday.
I expect many new theories when the update will come out.

I apologize to all of you who were waiting for part 18.

Until next time,
Cassy

The meaning of "Lokian".

I started to read this story but decided that there was some cultural issue that I am ignorant of. Can you explain?

The meaning of "Lokian" - explained

The word "Lokian" is a made-up word and derived from the name Loki.
In our world, Loki is a god from the Norse mythology.
However, in the story, Loki is a trickster mage.
He taught other trickster mages how to curb their need for doing magical pranks and tricks.
His teachings were first named "the way Loki does things".
Later it was shortened to "the way of Loki" and finally compacted to "The Lokian Way".

I hope this tidbit helps.

Kisses,
Cassy

It comes when it comes.

When it is ready, it’ll be ready. Miscellaneous food for thought below.

It is fitting that you use Loki for this story (instead of Hecate or Isis), as the Norse myths always emphasize that their gods are very mortal (Idun’s apples of Immortality and Thiazi, as well as the constant foreshadowing of Ragnarok). Loki being a trickster with the ability to shift into any shape (going so far as to be the biological mother of the famous eight-legged horse Sleipnir).

Thus, is it possible that Loki is the same Loki but merely got killed before Ragnarok, or that this takes place in a post-Ragnarok world (all coming from Lif and Lifthrasir)? Both ideas have been brought up before - the Blackwell Pages series is based on the former, and Christian missionaries in Medieval times were notorious for referencing the latter in a view where Lif and Lifthrasir were Adam and Eve - the end of the myths being the start of the Bible.

Interesting speculations, but ...

While interesting, I must admit I didn't follow your train of thought when creating the background for "The Lokian Way"
I will go into more detail after the story has run its course. Then I will write a detailed commentary. Like I did with "Natural Affection."
However, I can tell you that "The Lokian Way" is based on three distinct ideas.

1. Magic exists and is available to those who study it.
2. No religions or gods exist. However, every god(dess), half god(dess) and saint has a corresponding mage in "The Lokian Way" based on them.
3. The trickster character is not a villain or sidekick, but the main protagonist.

I chose Loki for his recognizability. Thank Marvel and the movies for that. His starting spells are visual and acoustic illusions. Similar to those of Loki from the Marvel movies. So don't expect too many details or lore based on the Norse mythology.

"Mercy, do you know why the founder of the Lokian Way was so great?" Mavis asked.
"Because he taught us how to curb the urges inflicted on us by trickster magic?" Mercy volunteered.
"What? No!" Mavis said, disgusted. "Because he shifted himself into a mare and had sex. Gave birth to an eight-legged horse. Eight legs, Mercy. Eight fuckin' legs!"

This ( ^^ ) will definitely not be part of "The Lokian Way".

If I hadn't gone with Loki the next best choice probably would have been Anansi.

Anyway. That's all for now.

Hugs,
Cassy
