In 2000 I voted for W. My tendencies are quite liberal, but he seemed much better than more Clinton years via gore. This week I was reminded why I thought so highly of W. when he said the following.
"Bullying and prejudice in our public life sets a national tone. It provides permission for cruelty and bigotry and compromises the moral education of children. The only way to pass along civic values is to first live up to them."
We need to demand civil behavior.

I admit I was surprised by that statement. I voted for him, mainly because he seemed to have his shit more together than Gore. Remember him riding around in that tank? But W. nailed it this time! Who would have imagined the Cheeto in Chief could actually make W. look like a statesman? Heck, #45 actually makes Nixon look good by comparison! "Tin soldiers and Nixon coming, we're finally on our own". We were such babies in the woods back then! :-(

Excellent Point
Regardless of personal viewpoints on any particular hot-button topic (are there any cold button topics? Hmmmmm...), the lack of civil behavior (especially civil debate) in the world (as I see it) is a serious source of despair in my life. The fact is that there are many issues I am afraid to discuss, even with peers/friends, for fear of being vilified.

The biggest problems....
The lose of the middle, is destroying the country and causing much of this discourse.
I was taught in school that in a negotiation, if both side do step away from the signed deal mad, then it was not a negotiation. Since to come to an agreement both sides had to give something up that they wanted. But now we have too many elected fools in office who a deal has to always have everything they want in it with nothing they can not stand in it, and that is not a deal or anything close to the word. Trump does not know how to make deal he first demands, then bullies, and finally attacks you to get what he wants.
Unfortunatly I am also reminded that the night is always arkest before the dawn, so things are going to get even worse before they get better.
