While out with friends today, Saturday, we stopped at our local mall Waldenbooks store. I casually remarked, while checking out with our books, that if I ever saw MY book in the place, I'd probably faint. The clerk, as we were leaving, asked me, "You have a book out?"
I explained that it was an online publishing, trade paperback, but he looked it up anyway and found it! He then checked to see if they could order it, but the computer said, no, however, he asked for my phone number and said that they can sometimes work around that, and asked me if I would do a book signing if they could. I did explain further, that the book was SciFi and TG, and explained what TG meant, since he had no clue.
He didn't seem fazed at all about the content, so of course I said YES!!!!! So now I will be waiting by my phone, praying for a phone call to let me know when the signing will be!! LOL
Wish me luck everyone? If this goes off, I will, of course, be mentioning all the other wonderful books written by our very talented authors that are published by lulu, and those available at Top Shelf, along with supplying the URL for lulu.
With crossed fingers, toes, eyes, and anything else I can cross I am,

That Is Most Wonderful News To Hear
I hope that it comes true and that the other authors can then have their books recognizes by the public.

Holy cow!
That is great news! It is also good news for the rest of us who has always dreamed of being a writer. (And making money from it if not a living!) Keep us posted!

A life lived in fear is a life half-lived
I love that quote!
And I agree with your sentiments! Some of us don't even aspire to be paperback writers (even though we have learned that writing is a lot of fun.)
Congrats!

Congratulations!
That's one of the nicest things I've read on BCTS! I hope you have a good time at the signing.

Rest assured,
that IF, and I do mean IF, this comes off, I will be more than certain that everyone who gets involved, from customers, to management, to casual onlookers, is made aware of the tremendous talents who write for no reward, other than comments from their readers online, and the efforts of the site owners, who generously allow us space to display our stories.
This signing is, by no means, a sure thing, and there is every probability that it will never happen, but just the tentative invitation to do a book signing, IF they can work things out, has lifted my spirits.
IF it happens, you can bet your best bra and panty sets that I will NOT forget everyone who, over the years, has helped me in one way or another. This isn't just for me. It's for all of us.

Congratulations
This opportunity happened for you because you looked at the clerk behind the counter as a real live person and struck up a conversation.
Your positive spirit works not only for the good of the world as a whole, but will continue to work for your benefit.
If it happens -- great. If it doesn't. . .something else equally as nice will cme along.

Book Publishing
I am trying to get a book published. It would be a quadology (if there is such a word) -- The Adventures of Lizzie Jane.
It would contain "Country Girl", "The Evil Dead Shall Rise", "The Long Journey" and "Guns are not for Little Boys."
I am trying to find out how to go about it. It would be self published of course by Lulu, but the problem is preparing it for the publisher and calculating the cost.
I have someone here that said they would help, but I am waiting for them to give me the go-ahead and the cost.
Love,

Book Signing
It would probably be good to call the store and talk to the manager. Let her know you spoke with the clerk and reiterate that you would love to do this. That way she knows that you are interested in following up, which may be the impetus she needs to push her beyond only thinking about it. It can't hurt.
Remember to take as many extra copies of your book as you can: You may be able to sell more than the store can (or is willing) to stock. Also, do what you can to promote it on your own - get as many friends, contacts, anyone you can think of - to spread the word. This is a chance to meet current and potential readers AND sell books.
If you have any independent booksellers in the area, try talking to them about doing the same. The worst they could say is "No." You could end up doing a mini-tour to promote the book locally.
Good Luck.
