Where do people get "cannot treat transgendered people on religious grounds" from?

I have read a fair amount of scripture of various religions. Mormon, catholic, christain, budism, muslim, luthren(althoug i have to say i cant understand most of that one)

So far i Have yet to find something that definitively says that transgendered"or gender confused" people are well anything.

Closest is "man shall not wear womens garments" and vice versa..

Yet doesnt define a man or woman.

The brain determines a persons sex. There is positive proof that the brain of a man and woman are different and that trans people have the brain that is opposite of their birth sex.

This is what we try to correct.

So where does "cannot treat transpeople on religious grounds" come from?

So confused and just trying to understand.

I can give an answer

I can give an answer, but you won't like it. Its all about money. The clergy have to find something to center hatred and fear on so they will be given money to fight it. They all suffer the same sins; lust, vanity, sloth. It that matters.
As for the 'men shall not wear women's clothes' bit, that comes from the book of genesis. That means old testament, which comes from the Tanakh, the Hebrew bible and therefore only applies to those of the Hebrew faith. Not that it matters because if you look at any depictions of that time, just about everybody wore the same, simple, long(or short) shirt/dress like garment or they wore a toga.

Keep it simple folks, treat people the way you want to be treated, unless you know for a fact they intend to do cruel things to you. Hostiles come in all forms, so never limit yourself to just one group of people.

It Does Come From the Tanach...

...but not Genesis. The "law books" of the Torah (the Five Books of Moses) are Leviticus and Deuteronomy; this one's in the latter, IIRC. (And yes, there are other ways to interpret the verse, but that's beside the point here.)

But I don't agree that all fundamentalists are swayed by money. It's entirely possible for someone to feel that a TS is desecrating a God-given body ("the temple of God") and conclude that it's a sinful act under their version of their faith. (Some even consider permanent tattoos to be sinful desecration, let alone willful alteration of body parts.) TG fears may well run deeper than those relating to, say, botox injections, but IMO that's a mindset issue, not a religious one per se. In any case, it's not "all about money."

And as I believe people here have pointed out from personal experience, active disapproval (or worse) within a group can take place regardless of the beliefs or posturing of their religious leader.

As religious person who's given the matter considerable study

It has nothing to do with scripture, but more to do with the misconception that transgender is just a specific kind of homosexual. They reason that the only reason a man would wear women's clothes is to justify in their own head that it's OK to have sex with other men. And we all know the problem they have with gays.

Matthew 22:34-40

Many who pretend to be Christian forget the greatest commandment:
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Religion

Is it religion or the old part of the brain saying, different is bad, strangers are enemies, the old tribe or clan or herd mentality civilization is mostly trying to broaden the definition of us to be as broad as possible and hatemongers try to narrow it in specific ways to get power and status. Education is the best counter to this but people have to be willing to listen. Live life the best you can be a good example of what ever you believe or are and if you can speak or write do so.

I have to agree with you all,

I have to agree with you all, since there are different reasons for different people. IMO, most people do it because that's what they were taught. They do not understand the scriptures and simply follow like the sheep they are. The more manipulative ones do it for the money or the control over others. There are even a few who are LGBT but fear being the focus of that hatred, so they join in hoping to hide.

My response to so called Christians is the same as DAB2640. Furthermore Jesus made NO EXCEPTION in verse 40. So if you are obeying Commandments 1 & 2 you ARE obeying ALL of the law and prophets. God condemns their actions because they are not obeying the two greatest commandments.

Also Matthew 7: 1-5 clearly states "Do not judge (pass sentence upon someone as if they were tried and convicted in court), or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure (standard) you use, it will be measured to you.

3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

So you can see that they will be condemned by their own actions before God, and are only the blind leading the blind.

Love to you all

Have to agree it is the human group thing

Christianity is not the only bigoted religion. Even religious leaders like the Dalai Lama (who believe in reincarnation for goodness sake!) does not support trans people says it violates ones karma or something, I believe.

Sad.
