It may be lifted but like desegregation and ban on women in combat jobs it will take years before the old die-hard bigots are removed, retired, or resigned.
I shudder thinking about what will happen to openly transgender military personnel. They already sweep sexual assaults against CISgender women under the rug, I can't fathom what they would do to those who abuse TG women or men.

I was at the Portland, Oregon Va on 6/10/16 in an LBGT meeting where they were talking about similar things. In 1966, when I was drafted if you showed up in women's panties that was an automatic very nasty deferral. My how times change.

from what I heard there's a proposal to include Bio-Fem into Selective Service registry(long overdue). Any draft without invasion of the continental U.S. will kill the career of any politico that endorses it.

The fuck is a bio fem? Anyway cis women don't have to register so it's just a way to other us. Trans women still have to register for the draft. It's again putting us in the category of "not a real woman." So they can go fuck themselves.

Homonyms, synonyms, heterographs, contractions, slang, colloquialisms, clichés, spoonerisms, and plain old misspellings are the bane of writers, but the art and magic of the story is in the telling not in the spelling.
Won't change much
Allowing the enlistment of and even protecting the rights and actions of transgendered in the military won't change much. The majority will stay closeted during those years, they'll just 'hopefully' be less stressed about being discovered. What would really change things is if the military also included medical care/treatment under the military's standard medical coverage. Or as part of the VA medical system. That would shake things up.

VA and transition care
Right now all the VA provides is HRT and Therapy. However sometime in the next 22 months they will be allowing full transition care along the lines of what Medicare presently provides. This includes GRS.
