Is it just me that finds checking up on the latest total number of hits for a story so addictive? I imagine it probably is, lol.

Like, totally!

Scoping out the bitchin' hits is just outrageously tubular! Like, totally awesome. Sometimes I go straight to the computer, like, from work all grody and just gag me with a spoon! Seriously.

ALRIGHT!!!!

Someone PLEASE take her DVD of "Valley Girls" away from her! LOL.

Toni

PS.
Yes, I too am a "Hit-coutntaholic".

not DVD

Frank and Moon Unit Zappa's song "Valley Girl" from the 80s... set on repeat in my room all night last night!

there's one way to cure you...

go buy Flogging Molly, "Drunken Lullabies". If that doesn't cure the "Valley Girl" speak, noting will... LOL.

I'm so Sure!!

That Zapha thing was a total waste. I mean, Gooood!

The movie with Nicolas Cage, now that was quite another thing all together.

Where most folks quote 'The Godfather' as the I Ching of all wisdom, I often
resort to 'Valley Girl.'

"Like... If they attack the car, save the radio!"

It also had much better music!

Sarah Lynn,

Totally!

Comment Whore

As for me, All I can say is that I was very fortunate
to find such an amazing group of people here. I don't
write very well; but even so, I have always received
universal encouragement from the patrons of this site.

One of the reasons I did not post for such a long
time, was because I didn't like what the pursuit of
commentary, and comment envy did to me; as well as,
the very realistic and justifiable fear of exposing
my meager efforts to comparison with the torrent of
brilliantly written stories this site has to offer.

In fact, I only published my first story here, because
I was very curious as to whether or not my stories might
actually hold any redeeming value… Well, that, and the
fact that Angel practically threw me into a wheelbarrow of
encouraging praise, and rolled me into the site before
dumping me off!

Erin once said to me that she, like me, was amazed at the
number of very talented and erudite souls who inhabit this
venue. It was only when I realized how very much I agreed
with her, in my respect for their talents and opinions, that
I understood how much I agreed. In the end, I believe that
it is more those magnificent and manifest talents, which lead
me to prize any comments so highly. At least, I hope so,
since the alternative is that I really do need the attention…

Death threats...

That’s just what I meant! How cleverly Angharad revealed the soul of the matter.
I’m laughing so hard, I can’t type…

I like Ed Wood!

Some great stuff. May not be Oscar material, but it is entertaining.

I'm Addicted Too

I check my hits nearly every day. Even though I haven't posted for a long time it still gives me great pleasure to see one or two people taking an interest, even if all they have actually done is click on and then say "Ugh!" and click off.

are you kidding?

Yes! I'm always looking at the hit counters!

The day that thing was broken, so was I.

Kaleigh

Peek. Wait. Peek again. Log off. Log on. Peek.

Yup. I'm new to the whole posting thing, having been a lurker for ages, but I'm so glad I've started participating.

With the first two stories I've posted here I checked that hit counter repeatedly to see if anyone was reading it and I was constantly looking to see if there were any comments. The second story had a second hit within a minute or so of posting which amazed me. So fast, so fast. I figured the first hit was my own when the program brought it up after submission.

Here's what I don't understand yet though.

  1. I was able to figure out most of the tag definitions (they are rather universal), but I've not been able to figure out all of nuances with them. Is there a page for the descriptions of the various tags?
  2. If there's any function for finding the stories with the most votes or comments. The former more so then the latter. I'd love to see what I've missed over time that people have really enjoyed or had things to say about.
  3. I'm assuming that a vote is basically someone saying "I like this story." Seems obvious, but I'll ask anyway.
  4. Whether there's any such tag for a story that is about crossdressing, but doesn't actually contain any crossdressing moments. Should I use the crossdressing tag in that case? I've got one I'd like to post like that.

Hopefully someone will know and provide answers...

1. Huh? You mean BC genres/themes/elements or HTML tags? or?

2. No. And there's a reason.

3. Yup.

4. Yes but it's up to you.

:)

1. Yah, the BC

1. Yah, the BC genre/themes/elements.
2. True enough. I had figured the reason out too.

Thanks Erin!

BC genres, etc.

No, there's no page defining all of the genres, themes and elements because this way, each author can use them as their own. I've seen systems of descriptions and tags that get fiercely definitive about usage and I'm just not gonna be the cop on the beat for such a thing. My style of autocracy is benign chaos. :)

Hits are cool

I like the hit counter but then I also like votes. The more votes you get the more likely it seems you'll get shown in the daily voting which in turn tells people your storys worth reading. If your story gets moved down by postings, being shown in the daily voting I think helps increase your chances for more hits. Also comments are nice.Amy M

Talking Ed Wood

joannebarbarella's picture

"Glen or Glenda" was absolutely riveting and produced by a man who went into action in WW2 wearing a pink bra. How could you not like him?

This Talking Ed Wood....

erin's picture

I'm picturing a GI Joe doll wearing an Angora sweater over a pink bra, fatigues and combat boots. When you pull the string in its back it says--what? :)
