I see that my approach to storytelling is welcome here and for that I'm glad. I prefer a lighthearted approach to issues related to gender identity and sexuality but by no means do I think they are frivolous. Sometimes a series of light touches is the best way to explore difficult subjects. On top of that I do enjoy making people smile once in a while.

One thing I worry about in my writing is that in making light of serious subjects I do more to diminish their importance than I accomplish in bringing attention to them. In "In Moderation" sexual assault does occur but the characters behave as if the incidents were merely honest mistakes made by people, justified by a sense that the person was less real due to their state of dress. The victim in this case is not phased by it until they see themselves more fully as the character they embody (and thus as 'more real') but still doesn't respond fully for various reasons. I'm not sure how Justin should have stood up for himself but it shouldn't have taken his confession of being male for Hank to start respecting him.

I will continue to post appropriate short stories here and I hope to have a novel finished in a year or so. Thank you for the warm welcome.

Umm

Your story isn't tagged with sexual assault. I almost started reading it. Those things are heavily triggering please warn us ahead of time on such serious subjects...

Still, welcome to BC, but yeah please... let us know with that stuff. I really don;'t want nightmares tonight.

I know who I am, I am me, and I like me ^^

Copping Feels...

…and hugs with a comic book character who is walking by at a convention isn't exactly what the Warning: Sexual Assault category brings to mind.

Yeah, there's that, Immensia

Yeah, there's that, Immensia's rant later on and the incident in the cafe. None of the descriptions are graphic by any means but they're right that I should have included a tag. "CAUTION: Depictions of groping" would probably be more accurate.

Welcome to BC

Those of us who have tried to deal with difficult subjects often temper it with humour because in real life people laugh at the most inappropriate times often through nerves. It also might make the situation more easy to read or appreciate. People often also say the exact opposite to what they really mean sometimes because they don't want to be bothered and sometimes because they're frightened or trying not to pay too much emotional attention to the situation, which is where gallows humour originates.

Humans are fascinating, or so my cats say.
