Our ailing old cat might have a bit more life in him

My sister took our sick and nearly 20 year old cat to the vet to see if the meds had helped any

Still not sure if he has cancer but he does have an inflamed bowel.

The bloody stools have stopped as best we can tell.

His red blood cell value was at 13 out of a healthy 30 right after Christmas. He was near critical at that time according to the vet.

To put that in human terms, before my dad's heart valve replacement his aortic valve was 15 percent efficient. We later learned that his doctor estimated he had 2 or 3 months to live. Nearly 10 years later his cow and metal replacement is well up in the fifties % efficiency. Ideally it should be 60 percent or so but it's fine.

As to out cat, his red cell measure is now 19 out of 30.

They have to be careful because the meds are hard on the kidneys and his are in moderately poor shape.

If we see blood again we are to call the vet and get him back on that anti inflammatory med.

But so far so good.

His time is coming but so long as he gets some enjoyment for life we want him with us.

That's our cat, not dad.

P.S. it MIGHT be in the low 20F in Green Bay on this Sunday. Damn, I was hoping for 20 BELOW. Want to give the Dallas Cowboys a REAL Wisconsin welcome. Minus 1F is the expected HIGH this Wednesday down here in tropical southern Wisconsin.
