I can't take this any more. I am near tears.
The ongoing saga of my foot will not end.
So, they need to do a ct scan to confirm that I have a bone infection and also to know how to cut it out. I'm sure it's not every bone and probably not the whole bone so they have to be careful. The specialists have been pretty nice and on top of things so I hate that part of my frustration gets taken out on them.
They don't do PICC lines or CT scans at the specialists office, they outsource to the hospital. Now, in order for me to go to the hospital I need another referral. Humana will not take a referral from them, it has to go through my primary care quack (I refuse to call her a doctor from here on out).
So, the specialists call my quack and put in a request for me to go to the hospital so I can get the PICC line so I can get the much needed IV antibiotics and CT scan. Today the specialists receives a referral for me to visit their office. The referral I already had. Not the referral to the hospital for what I need. When I call the PCP they have no record of any request for a referral to the hospital. I am in agony. I am about to bite off my own foot. What do I do? Do I show up to the PCP tomorrow and demand action. That could work against me. Is there anyone I can go to for help? If the doctor would have listened to me the first time, things wouldn't have progressed this far. I am hurt, I am mad, and I am very sad. Picture a depressed onion cutting itself, that's how sad I am. Hopefully I will go to sleep and never wake up and not have to be in pain any longer.

You really need to get a new PCP. I'd also suggest you look at reporting all the difficulties you've had with your current physician to your state board of medicine.

Ask the surgeon to call your doctor again
and make sure he gets them to understand what you need ie the IV antibiotics. His word will carry more weight than yours, unfortunately.
This is getting more and more farcical not to mention limb threatening.

The specialist is staying on top of them. I called them up today, that's how I know about the wrong referral. They said they called back today and will light a fire under them tomorrow as well. By the time the referral gets approved I probably will have to wait until monday before I get the antibiotics.

It is not stupidity, but likely sadistic greed.
If they are having you do the same referrals, and the same tests, over and over, it is clearly this is not stupidity, but likely sadistic greed on their part.
It seems their view is that it is more profitable to them, to charge for test after test, while you are remain suffering, than to cure your infection.
What hospital is this?
I smell some serious malpractice here. Time for a road trip to Hopkins.
Possible missing piece
Katie, the go between you may need, is a medical care ombudsman.
They in my short history, been a god send. They are not going to get you extra, miracle care.(no free GRS or heart transplants)
But, if someone in medical field is screwing with the people, the ombudsman are the step up before the suing and lawyers.
And it is in my opinion surprising some of the wheels they can grease and get working for you like they should have, in the first place.
Most places/states have them and often bigger hospitals either have them or direct contact info, trick is you have to know to ask.
