From A Veteran Editor of 'Stars And Stripes'
Regulars here will know I’m not a fan of BS and half-measures. Don’t piss on my boots, and tell me it’s raining …
This has been a horrible month for anybody who still cares about America, her place in the world, and her duty to her people.
We are under attack by Donald Trump’s soulless, gutless Republican Party, and the United States of America will never be the same again.
Anybody who really cares about this country knows this.
And if you really care about this country, you are hurting badly right now.
And if you hurting badly right now, I am proud to know you, because you are all heart.
And if you are all heart, then let’s lean on each other, and keep giving it hell, dammit …
There has not been a president in my lifetime who has so purposefully and gleefully inflicted pain on people like this one. He is completely dead inside. His very own sister once described him as “cruel.”
Sisters know …
I get it, in many ways Ronald Reagan set the pretext for much of what we are seeing now, and if you still want to put all this on him, I won’t fight you, but I will tell you that this president is intent on setting fire to us all — including, of course, plenty of his idiotic Republican supporters, who are most to blame for this gruesome chapter in American history.
They are about to find out that everybody gets hurt during a coup, except for the king.
Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth (I choked typing those names and titles) were in Europe this week surrendering to Nazis and Vladimir Putin, spitting on our NATO partners, and doing literally everything they could to show the entire world just how pathetic and weak America has become under the hateful reign of King Gorge.
Measles are making a comeback in Texas, and the Gulf of Mexico has sued for a divorce.
So screwed up, incapable, and hateful are these people that they actually fired 300 staffers who manage our nuclear stockpile Thursday night at the National Nuclear Security Administration, not realizing the agency oversees America’s nuclear weapons.
By Friday morning they were googling. “ How do you un-fire government workers that are crucial to making sure we aren’t blown to smithereens?”
As my grandfather used to say, “No sense being an incapable a--hole unless yer gonna show it …”
And before going any further I want to thank all the public servants in our federal government like those at the NNSA, who are in the middle of bloody hell right now simply because they care about America.
Those federal workers who aren’t under constant threat, intimidation and surveillance, have already had their lives completely ripped apart and turned upside down.
Consider the National Park ranger … or the Forest Service botanist … or the scientist in the Department of Health and Human Services who worked their tails off for the necessary qualifications to use that expertise to serve their country only to be kicked to the curb by a drug-addled multi-billionaire, and his boot-licking band of baby hyenas.
These complete pieces of s--- don’t belong outside their basements, much less anywhere near our government. Yet there they are on the inside stealing everything they can get their grubby little hands on.
This is called “a national emergency.”
So why isn’t it being reported that way, mainstream media? There’s just so goddam much blame to go around right now. And say, how are you dopes in Dearborn, Michigan, and elsewhere in this country who just couldn’t vote for the woman making it right now?
Like I said, it’s been a horrible month, and it has driven me to the point of distraction … but back to the heroes in our government, who have been treated like trash by King Gorge.
Many of these human beings who were fired this week had accepted these jobs only months ago. Thousands of them moved hundreds of miles from home, brought their families with them, secured housing and new schools for their kids, all so they could go to work for America.
Now they are jobless, without benefits, and in deep, deep trouble thanks to the orange psychopath, who attacked the very country they aspired to serve.
Only Trump can turn the American dream into a nightmare. It is his specialty, in fact.
Ya know, I really don’t know where in the hell we go from here. The best advice I can give to you right now is to think local. What can you do inside your community that will make a tangible difference and reverberate outward?
Here in Wisconsin, we have the latest “most important election ever” in April when the balance of the state Supreme Court is up for grabs. The Forces for Good finally beat back the Forces of Evil on the radical right to take control of that court two years ago. That resulted in the most gerrymandered state in the country finally getting something resembling fair legislative maps.
Judge Susan Crawford is who you want to support in that one, patriots. So if you can, please help, and thank you.
A Crawford victory will also put a check on Republicans’ plans to take away a woman’s right to choose in this state. That this battle is still being fought is completely absurd, but here we are in America …
Look, I wish I could type about warm, happy times, good people, but we are probably best dealing with the cold realities right now.
We are in deep trouble, and moving about in a dangerous environment where literally anything is possible.
But you knew that, because you care …
If it means anything to you, I plan to keep fighting like hell. This old, salty sailor still has plenty of kick left, even if I suffer from the occasional limp. So if we really are committed to leaning on each other here, then I say we should all take heart, because heart is what we have, and then some.

Wow, That is Quite the Rant...
I agree with every word. I am pissed that the Democrats let this happen. They are the ultimate sissies.

Two Party system
I don't think you can blame the Democrats, unless you blame their nominee for President! With the Democrats in the minority and Republicans afraid to go against 'their man', you have to blame 'the system'!
Speaking to several friends, I get the message "I am a Republican, and always will be! I will always vote as I consider it my duty. I have to vote for the Republican nominee, even it were a cardboard cut-out of Mickey Mouse. I will never vote Democrat, nor spoil my vote".
I know a few who absolutely detest Trump, but had to vote for him because of the above sentiment!
So, blame the system, not the Democrats!
Not Completely Blameless
The Democrats are not completely blameless. Their actions or lack thereof on several fronts drove previous supporters away.
They made no obvious attempts to "Trump Proof" government when they had the chance.
The many legal proceedings against Trump failed because they dragged their feet in starting. Trump has bragged that he learned how to drag out court cases from his father's lawyer, a tactic he successfully used many times to his benefit before entering politics. Apparently "no one knew" he might do that in a criminal case!

Understatement
Some of you, I'm sure, have heard of the "Republicans Who Hate Democrats, and the Democrats who love them". The Dipshit Centrists, moderates, those who value bipartisanship for bipartisanship's sake, the consultants interested in filling their bank accounts, the saboteurs, those who value hippy-punching and poking their base (the "far left") in the eye rather than doing the sane thing... (Sorry, lost my predicate.)
Will She Or Won't She
The insurrection issue collapsed once the US Supreme Court ruled that the states weren't allowed to obey the Insurrection Clause in holding their presidental elections. (Recall that presidential elections are fifty state elections rather than a single nationwide election.) That allowed our Insurrectionist-in-Chief to (possibly) be elected again.

Blaming
Sadly, this reminded me of something that happened long ago.
Just after the Berlin Wall fell, I was in (Western) Germany for a month. My neighbor there was a strict and disciplined man in his seventies, a military vet. Once we had stopped for a talk, and among the other things he told me that he believes that when the national anthem is played, every German citizen must stand up and sing it. That those who refuse to do it must be prosecuted and imprisoned.
"What if someone mistakes me for a citizen?", I tried to make a joke. "I don't even know which version of 'Das Deutschlandlied' is the official one--"
He looked at me sternly and replied coldly:
"The only true one. That starts with 'Deutschland, Deutschland uber alles'!"
I didn't asked him what army he served in...
Another thing he said concerned the Jews during the Nazism:
"All that about the mass killing of Jews is grossly exaggerated. Nowhere near millions died, the rest is propaganda... Of course, I do not approve even those deaths too. It was wrong to kill them. But they themselves brought it upon them, by disturbing and angering the people. They had built sinagogues, they were walking the streets, living in beautiful and costly homes. I even saw once a Jew walking on the street with that funny cap of theirs on!... Had they kept a low profile and supported the greatness of Germany, they would have long and happy lives. But it was them who chose otherwise..."
I see the same now too. And already expect the people who do it, when Trump makes a military coup, to start saying: "It is you the liverals who forced him to do it! Had you agreed to give him unlimited number of mandates, he wouldn't have to make a coup! Don't blame him when you are the guilty!"...
We'll Fight On..
My mothers side of the family came from Scotland, my dad's side of the family came from some forgotten province in the former German Empire. I have the blood of two fighting races flowing in me. We're fighting on, we're going to keep fighting. I can only tell you how things are going on a local level. Locally I'm boycotting the local paper because one of the guest editors supports the MAGA movement. I support freedom of the press, but as I told them in a letter, when that freedom is abused, and used as a weapon, it no longer civic right. My letter was of course was not published in the paper, but I did verablly nail it to the church door, well I taped it to the front of the heralds office door.
Though there more crushing matters, the dollar has weaken, the price of eggs has sky rocketed. And to maintain a profit, a slim profit, our shipments have been scaled back, I fear the store will soon close, cause you can't sale emty spots on the selve. My hours too have been cut, from a solid forty to eight a week. I think I picked the worst time to return back to school or the best time. Anyway, were going through hell right now. But were not going to stop fighting.
And while we fight tooth and nail here, fighting mostly from the shadows, and going toward the gallows when caught with our heads held high.I ask that the world pray for us. That going to sound hollow, but its what America needs more than anything. The vast majority of use have followed what many thought and hoped would be another Washington, instead we got a Nero.

As a New Yorker, I've seen his BS for many more years than the rest of the country. This egotistical pretend playboy, Epstein buddy, who has cheated on every wife he ever married, ripped off his suppliers has absolutely no redeeming characteristics. It is beyond my comprehension that almost 50% of this country voted for this turd. If your most vocal supports are white supremacists how the hell can anyone else vote for you. I will be protesting whenever I can!
Julie
I just hope his supports
I just hope his supports suffer more for his failings than others do.
Long Time Non-fan
I decided many decades ago the orange one couldn't be trusted when he shafted the quarterback of his USFL football team (the New Jersey Generals?).
I would describe him as a cross between a carnival barker and a used car salesman. Emphasizing the worst qualities of both.
I've given up hoping that god would intervene with a lightning bolt during one of his many golf outings.
I'm waiting to hear him announce his new hotels and golf resorts in the Crimea and Gaza once he his finished selling them both out.

Overreaction?
"Locally I'm boycotting the local paper because one of the guest editors supports the MAGA movement." One guest editor? Maybe it depends on whether other editors seriously respond to him, or ignore him.
On the other hand, you are doing something. Some of us are mentally paralyzed.
Speaking of Nero, I have the hunch that we are in the midst of lead-poisoned leadership. Perhaps we have to wait it out -- or maybe vocally raise the issue of lead poisoning.

Air Traffic Control
One of the most recent is to oust two or three hundred air traffic control workers. This is three weeks after the DC collision. Is this Trump's dementia or a message from Musk?
Is Democratic Representative Jeffries oblivious? Or is he scum? See his response to Karl's question here:
Finally, I'm swamped with emails from TurnoutPAC. They won't let you sign a petition or proceed through a poll without a contribution. They are scammers.

Wasn't there a President Trump between Obama and Biden, who promised to drain the swamp?

Seriously
I hope you aren't referring to those lawlessly and destructively rampaging through our government, illegally accessing Treasury computer systems holding way too much confidential data on all of us, etc.

Let's talk about Social Security
Budget reform and what is going on are two different things. Let's make that clear. They are deconstructing the government.
Now let's talk about social security. Elon Musk and his team of programmers and computer engineers claimed that over 10 million people over the age of 100 are getting social security. That is not true. The number is 53,616. That is from the stats from the database which they claim to have found over 10 million people.
They also claim that people who are 150 years are getting social security. Again not true. Some people in that database does show up as being that old but that is becuase of the computer program which Social Security uses, COBOL. One reason for the supposed 150-year-old people in the Social Security system is COBOL's lack of a date type. Because some implementations of SSA databases default missing or incomplete birthdates as a reference point, often May 20, 1875, this means that records without proper birthdates could incorrectly display ages far beyond human lifespans.
Additionally, the SSA has a policy of halting benefit payments to people at age 115. Since September 2015, the agency has automatically discontinued payments for any recipient recorded as older than this threshold.
A person who says "Some of the things I will say will be incorrect" to get rid of fraud. I should not have to explain why to anyone, but will because so many people are trusting Elon Musk to get rid of fraud. They have to be sure of what they claim to be fraud is fraud before going after it as fraud. It is a simple concept of having proof for your asseration and sadly Elon does not.
