It was still about 95 Degrees F (35 c) at 1:00 am this morning and though my apartment was 76 F or so, I woke up with cabin fever and stepped outside to get away from the noise of the chiller. As I sat there, I could hear a woman on the street screaming hysterically. She sounded close enough that I decided to see if calling the Police was in order. She was actually about 2 blocks away, so walking as fast as I could it took less than 5 minutes to get to her. She had moved by then but I still managed to track her down and when I rounded a corner I came upon a scene where two guys seemed to be trying to calm down a very intoxicated, and scantily dressed woman. She was wearing a 'clubbing' bikini with a hip wrap, and was very pretty. The left side of her face looked like she had been hit, so after very little negotiation with the group, I called the Plod. I should have told them that two men were trying to rape her, but instead I had said she looked very drunk and was combative.

As soon as they were aware that I called the police, one guy got in his pickup and the girl got in with him and they left. The other guy went into an apartment building. I walked home feeling stupid.

It's 12 hours later, and I am feeling very stupid for getting involved. I'm not sorry I tried to help. Having been Police in the military, I know that domestic disturbances are the most frustrating...

God, what an idiot !!!

The subject was triggering, and I was scared to see what it was about. You wrote that the girl got in the truck with one of the guys, so I guess that no crime was in process.

I hope

That its not you feeling like an idiot. You did exactly the right thing. Everything looks different to the guy in the chair on Monday morning. Even though the guys split up and she left with one does not necessarily mean she did it with accurate and total fore knowledge. And she WAS screaming her head off, with two guys fighting her, in the middle of aa public space, at oh dark thirty a.m. its just your prior service time saying i could have/should have done this. And THAT you can't do as a civvie.

No spanking for this one ...

You Acted, you Did Something.

This is a far better memory than 'I should have.'

About all my 'civilian' mind can come up with, is to call police before they know you are there. Oh, and get plate number on truck.
