So, when i last posted things were looking quite positive regarding Pater, he was in good cheer, the equipment was at the house and it was essentially a matter of waiting for a care package to be set up so he could return home. But then things went rapidly downhill. The check up at the hospital revealed the cancer has spread rapidly and from having some mobility last week, he's effectively bed ridden, the writing is on the wall so to speak. On the plus side he's not in pain at the moment, retains a full set of marbles and so far the issues are below the waist.
Of course this has changed things somewhat, moving home isn't really practical so we are in a bit of limbo waiting to sort out a plan of action going forward. There isn't a set timetable but if things continue as they are we are talking weeks rather than months. It's a difficult time for everyone so i hope you'll forgive me if my postings are a bit erratic or maybe unhinged for the next while.
Ending on a more positive note, on Thursday i went for a ride up to Langsett, high up on the edge of the open moors where i had some lunch before returning to Sheffield via Strines, the infamous Mortimer Road full of 20%+ grades and hairpin bends. It was less than 60km but the 1000m of climbing was enough for me to complete my Everest challenge, that was to climb 8848m during June! So yay for me on that at least.
More from me later in the week, but for now,

Pater
I am so sorry to hear about your father, Maddy.
I lost my parents like 25 years ago and it is never easy.
You hardly need to offer an excuse to us in this situation.
*hugs*
So Sorry for your news
I'm really sorry Maddy, having very very recently gone through something pretty close with my own Dad up in the Northern General.
I'm so so glad that you got your ride up over Strines on Thursday. Tuesday we hit Lost Lad up from Ladybower for pretty much the same reasons. Ten miles up the Abby Brook does a lot to clear your head, pretty much the same as cycling the Ewden Hairpin probably does..
I hope it helped you. My day in the hills certainly helped me.
The very best wishes from one Sheffield Lass to another.

what a long strange trip its been."
Though we wish
that they are forever, and our heart agrees, we know really that one day our parents will be gone. It's not easy to accept. Both of mine went last year. I do feel for you Mads, and would give you the strength to go forward.
