There have been surprises in this contest.
I didn't expect the quality of the stories to be as robust as it is. About thirty percent of the entries are top-tier. There haven't been any that I thought weren't readable.
The number of stories inspired by this contest is about what I expected, a total of one hundred and fifteen -- with less than a week to go.
Ethan fears becoming the Mighty Casey of lovedom. Chloe’s standards for acceptance are simple and unyielding. Marissa Lynn’s characterization, plot, and use of language are all exceptional.
Janet discovers Colin’s secret and then decides to punish him publicly. Kaily listens to Janet, celebrating her malevolence until she can take it no longer—another exceptional story from Maeryn Lamonte.
This is the same plot, setting, and characters as My Promise to You but told from a different point of view. This is an exceptional story from Maeryn Lamonte.
Adrian’s work has deserted him, leaving him surrounded at home by new and exotic ideas. It seems a scheming wife and uncontrollable needs had cast her fate. This above-average story by Erin G has been augmented by revealing graphics.
Ray has imposed rules upon himself regarding his cross-dressing. He seemingly doesn’t understand the guilt and shame that he is creating. His sister and her friend help him move forward. Peregrine has provided an above-average story about guided change.
A story of forget and forgive? If only? Drea DiMaggio has written an above-average story with a very thoughtful ending.
Captain Hook takes a turn to something he Never-Never saw coming. This very good story from Maeryn Lamonte excels in silliness.
Allison is afraid of all men except for Aaron. This is a good story from girlinthelight that doesn’t follow traditional paths.
Another very good story from Marissa Lynn. Carrie’s mother tries to save her son from eternal damnation by dragging him through Hell on Earth. Things change over time.
Can you trust a rodent named Phil who annually participates in a gigantic hoax? Those of us who have dealt with our dysphoria are well aware of the “rinse and repeat” phases we go through. Maeryn Lamonte wrote this very good story.
One can only imagine that the dress that seemed too casual for wear around the office might have been a “shift.” That would add a third meaning to the cleverly selected title word. Dot has assembled an above-average story about working the ten to six "shift" while undergoing a "shift" in gender identification.
Cupid, draw back your bow,
And let your arrow go,
Straight to my lover’s heart for me, for me.
- Sam Cooke
In this exceptionally well written story by Lauren Bliss, the protagonist makes a resolution with a hefty penalty clause that assures personal disaster if they fail. This imaginative tale closes the circle between 1/1 and 2/14.
Ames, Iowa is roughly halfway between Minneapolis and Omaha, and is known by many basketball fans as the college home of Fred Hoiberg. Set in this stark countryside is a tale of a young heart opening to a troubled little girl. Jessica has created a good story about compassion.
There’s a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. Sarakel takes us into this bizarre literary zone in a very good story about a pathetic man about to come face-to-face with consequences for his actions.
Susanna and Tyler make an effort to save their marriage. Magicshoppe has written a good, mind-bending story.
