Contests:

Hi everyone! I’m traveling, but managing— just! — to keep up with the great stories that keep coming in. Just a couple days left to get yours in, authors!

Here’s my next batch of fifteen thumbnail sketches. Great stories - have a read!

Countdown to Confidence

Ray enjoys cross-dressing in the apartment he shares with his sister Karla, but has no desire to go out dressed . . . until he does. Disappointed that he isn't confident enough to join Karla and her friend Ashley at a New Year's Eve bash in a stunt red dress they got him, he resolves to spend a year improving his feminine skills. But November comes, and time's almost up. Enter Ashley, and Peregrine's sweet resolution to Ray's dilemma

Nathan, Maybe. Who knows?

Polly J's inaugural story for BC is the tale of a gentle boy who has a talent for sewing and a generous heart. His willingness to help both the girls' and boys' sports teams with their kit earns him goodwill, acceptance and friendship. But a sudden illness brings new focus to his life

Marking Your Card

You see the set-up and think you know what's coming: A guy who likes to hang out at a bar frequented by fans of horse-racing has had a string of bad luck, and takes tips from Chelsea, a savvy acquaintance, in exchange for an open-ended promise to do what she wants if the bets pay off. But this story by Ms. Woolly punctures tropes faster than caltrops puncture bicycle tires. It is, supremely, a story about friendship, and a gentle exploration of what that entails.

My Hero

SuziAuchentiber's first story for BC, and hopefully the first of a very great many! Pete's a classic TG hero and Jake is his long-time friend, now a tall, strong, natural leader. We just know romance is bound to happen . . . but, on what terms? The author has some surprising thoughts.

Icebreaker

Traveling while trans is a frightening prospect for Tiffany, whose documents don't all have the coveted "F" on the gender line. But with great friends for support she takes the plunge, and finds that people the world over can be surprisingly welcoming. Another gem from that master of the short story, the intrepid cyclist Steph C!

It's Okay

Andrea Lena DiMaggio, who has penned many tales of love and loss, focuses this contest story on the good relationships that get broken when parents' intolerance drives a trans child away. Lonnie desperately wants to reconnect with Cassie, the beloved girlfriend she left behind, but fear holds her back and keeps her from revealing herself. Their slow dance toward reunion is infused with Drea's always-deft touch on the heartstrings of emotional nuance

A Real Man

The gym is just the place for a guy whose New Year's resolution is to to add some muscle mass, right? Well . . . sometimes the best of intentions have ways of going south. In this cute story from girlinthelight, Freddie starts the day headed for the gym, and ends it in a maid's outfit. Don't you hate it when that happens? Yeah. Me neither. :)

Blue Silk

Seeing Erisian's by-line causes many fans on BC to salivate over the prospect of another installment of the amazing, complex, Light saga. But this short story demonstrates an equal mastery of the short story. Cassandra, new to HRT, resolves to go on a date with a member of the notoriously sketchy soccer team while her best friend Joe stays behind, fretting like a mother hen. The story that follows is tightly focused, emotionally intense, and laced with surprises

One Last Hail Mary

Marissa Lynn explores the subject of repentance and redemption in this story of trans siblings who chose radically different ways of coping with abuse from their bigoted parents. Can two siblings who once loved each other escape their past and come to terms?

0300Z Defense HQ New Year Resolution

In this classic Bru story, an unnamed private locked in the bowels of a secure facility contemplates life and the possible uses of the power that is at his disposal. He immediately resolves to act on his impulse. And the result . . . Well. No spoilers, now. Et tu, Bru tale?

Second Star to the Right

An erudite Captain Hook is beyond frustrated with his inability to explain the rudiments of celestial navigation to his ignorant helmsman, the hapless Mr. Smee. But he's got himself some new crew members since Pan brought Wendy and most of the Lost Boys out of Never-never land, and young Twinklebelle has a novel solution to the Captain's problems! The delightful byplay in this witty Maeryn Lamonte story is not to be missed!-

Zuleika

Columbine's highly original story begins with a dialogue between a creator and the person he is creating — a woman who will carry his spirit through her lifetime. A unique dialogue the gives way to the story of a beautiful young woman, ready for life and resolved to make a difference.

Night Shift

Kevin Conroy is just going about his life, doing his job as a watchman at a car dealership, when he is inexplicably taken with a colorful pair of heels left under the desk of a cubicle assigned to him"Karma Conroy." Well, if the shoe fits . . . maybe the dress will too! Dorothy Colleen's intriguing tale of karmic awakening is an interesting departure from a magical transformation story

How a Resolution Saved a Life

A man who has tried and tried to get his son to "man up" and stop "mincing around like a fairy" goes off to cool down and commiserate in the familiar confines of his preferred watering hole. He meets an old friend who shakes his work, his convictions, and his priorities. A hard-hitting story from NoName1.

Still Time

Carrie is haunted by dreams of her mother Lauren, who disowned her in college after discovering Carrie was trans. Some of the dreams are too good to be true; others are worse than the truth ever was. In Marissa Lynn's story of friendship, love, and redemption, Carrie's roommate resolves to help her overcome the broken past.
