Hockey in Canada might be facing a pivotal moment

So the news is saying 4 current and one former NHL player have been charged in relation to an alleged sexual assault that happened 2018.

What makes this interesting is that Hockey Canada, who was responsible for the players at the time seemed more interested in making the problem go away, giving the accuser a lot of money in a lawsuit settlement.

This turned out to not be a great idea, as Hockey Canada gets most of its money from parents paying fees so their kids can play on Hockey Canada sponsored teams, and they were less than impressed with what appears to be hush money.

Once this came out, a lot of pressure was applied to the local police department, who had earlier dismissed the idea that anything illegal had happened, forcing a reopening of the investigation, which now has led to these charges.

This could be a pivotal moment for hockey, because just getting charges laid seemed almost impossible with the level of near-worship given to hockey players, especially those good enough to play for Canada at world events or make it to the NHL.

We'll have to see what the end result is, its possible they will be found not guilty and that being an accurate assessment of the situation, but if they are found guilty it may be a sign that just because someone has been put on a pedestal, it doesn't mean they should be above the law.

As for me, I'm torn between wanting to keep an eye on this case hoping for some justice, or needing to step away from the news because it might trigger my PTSD

Ah, well.
