Police Academy Chapter 15

Printer-friendly version

“Stop, Police!” Katlain was chasing after a young Latino teenage boy.

The young man had information that her team needs for a murder case they were working on. Normally, she would just shoot the kid in the leg, but now she was a police officer and had to play by the rules. She put a little bit more energy into her run and finally catch up with him. She grabs him by the belt loop and yanks backward.

“I said STOP!”

The teenager falls back towards the ground. Katlain goes about handcuffing the perp, as her partner finally catches up to her.

“Damn! You are quick.” Detective Carter looks at his partner as she handcuffs the teenage boy she took down.

“Here, help me get this kid up off the ground.” Katlain grabs one arm, while her partner grabs the other arm and helps lifts the boy up.

They managed to escort the boy to a police cruiser that had shown up. They turn the young man over to the uniform officers. Detective Carter was impressed with his new partner. She was quick and managed to take the guy down without any problems. She also didn’t complain about his driving, like most of his past partners did.

“So, do you think he is going to talk or lawyer up?” Katlain glances at her partner.

“Depends, I doubt he can afford a lawyer.”

“Well, we will see if your right.” Katlain couldn’t believe the photos she saw on the case.

They were looking for the person who killed Roy Tandem and Elizabeth Williams. They had been found dead inside their car over in an
abandoned parking lot. She knew the location very well. She had heard rumors of gangs using it to dump dead bodies there or using it for other things.

Carter glances at his new partner and noticed she was in deep thought. He wonders what she was thinking about.

“What are you thinking about, partner?”

“This case and the location.”

“What so special about the location?” Carter was curious.

He didn’t grow up here and wasn’t familiar with Augusta, Georgia. He figures Katlain must be familiar with the city.

“It’s a known location that gangs use to either kill their victims or jump in their members.”

“You sound like your very familiar with this area.”

“Enough to stay clear of this area. This area belonged to The Diamond Owls.”

“What do you know about that gang?” Carter looks at Katlain as they pull up to their police precinct.

“More then I would like to,” Katlain remembered her parents dealing with them.

Her father uses to sell the Meth he uses to make to them. She never liked their leader, because of the predatory look on his face. Rumor had it, that he liked molesting young boys. He used to keep several boys around for his pleasure.

She always thought her father was going to let him have at her, but he never did. He would only let certain things happen to a family. As for her mother, she might have let it happen if she was high as a kite. When her mother was high off the drugs she took, anything could happen.

They arrive back at the police precinct and head inside towards the interrogation room. Katlain stands back to watch as Detective Carter tries to get Jose Ordaz to talk. She’s met people like him before and knew, she was going to have to play a card she had.

“Here let me try.”

Carter moves aside to let Katlain sit down across Ordaz. Katlain looks at him and in Spanish “Dime quién es responsable del asesinato y no le
diré a Riaz que fuiste libre.”

Jose looks at Katlain. He notices a sly smile appearing on her face “Quién eres, perra?”

“Digamos que conozco a tu jefe personalmente.” A smile appears on Katlain’s face. She knew his boss. He paid her to steal a car he has been wanting.

Detective Carter was watching how his new partner was handling their suspect. He didn't speak Spanish, so he had no idea what she was saying, but he did notice Ordaz’s expression change when she spoke.

“Terry Quinlan. He put a hit out on them.”

“Why?” Detective Carter was curious.

“Why do you think, pig? The man owed him money and you don’t stiff Terry Quinlan and live.”

“How much did Mr. Tandem owe Mr. Quinlan?”

“Sixty thousand dollars. Mr. Tandem had a bad gambling habit and owed Mr. Quinlan.”

“So, Mr. Quinlan put a hit out on Mr. Tandem?”

“No, he hired an outside hitter to take Mr. Tanndem and his girlfriend out.”

“What’s the outside hitter’s name?” Detective Carter wanted to know.

“I don’t know. The only person who would know is Mr. Quinlan or his assistant.”

Katlain hasn’t met Mr. Quinlan’s assistant. She knew he hand one but has never met her before. She’ll have to ask Red about her. If anyone would know, it would be him.

“Alright, Ordaz, you’re free to go.” Katlain figures since he cooperated with them, she would drop the charges.

A uniform officer escorts Ordaz out of the room. Katlain follows behind him, with her partner behind her.

“What did you say to him, in order to get him to talk?” Detective Carter was curious.

“I told him, I would tell his boss about his side job. He belongs to the 57th street gang and sells a product that belongs to Lousy “Snake” Carceda. That’s a big no, no among his gang.”

“How do you that?”

Katlain stops and looks at her partner with a smile on her face “I grew up on the streets. There’s not any part of this city I don’t know.”

“Do you know anyone who can tell you or us the identity of the hitter who killed Mr. Quinlan?”

“Maybe. Anyway, let’s go and inform Sergeant Hudson what we got so far.”

From criminal to ligit law enforcement officer skiped patrol & by special order of the chief right to detective. Looks like she has a good lead on things, but needs to talk to a few of her old "employers" to get more info. I'm sure Sgt Harrason will LOVE the info the give him.
