Need Something To Read... Again.

Yet again I have largely exhausted my easily available TG reading materials, at least the ones that interest me, and as such I am in need of more recommendations.

Requirements:

--Decent writing. It doesn't have to be Pulitzer Prize winning or anything, but halfway decent spelling and word use are a must.

--MtF transformation, with a MALE love interest if sexuality is faced at all. This seems to be the hardest part about getting recommendations for me, but it really does hurt my ability to immerse myself in a character when the primary romantic relationship is lesbian/with a woman. Dunno why, it just does. It is a rare beast that can overcome this problem (Becoming Robin, or Tuck, depending on your definition of Tuck as a guy or a girl.)

--Age range between about 13 at youngest to maybe mid-thirties at oldest. If the story is extremely exceptional I can bend this rule (such as for reading Kelley Girl, or Zapped) but in general I find it hard to relate to characters outside of this age range.

--Just about any genre is fine with me; Fantasy, Science Fiction, or just plain real-world Fiction. That being said, use of fetish themes tends to turn me off to reading a story unless the story itself is exceptional, though in this situation the requirements are even more extreme than the ones for character age. Right now I'm following The Rusted Blade, Richard's Way, and I Am The Night (or whatever the Batgirl fanfic is) so that should give you an idea of how broad my genre tastes run.

--Happy endings are a must. I hate being depressed, and frustrated, and angry, so while I can deal perfectly fine with challenges in a story providing the character's impetus to improve and carry on, in the end I'm very American in my tastes, and want everything to be goody-goody for the protagonist. Also, "Oliver Twists," or repeated throwing of the main character in a hole every time something positive even hints at happening, are another no-no for me, and will get a story ignored regardless of how well it might be written.

--Longer stories are generally better than shorter ones, though a well written short story never goes amiss. Serials are great, but if they are long unfinished ones (like my own Echoes, I promise I'll get to it eventually!) then I would prefer it if they end at a point that either lends itself well to an obvious conclusion, or is a nice wrap-up even if there is more of the story to be told.

--I'm picky about fanfiction. I've only read Comics Retcon stories by one author (EnemyOfFun) and most of my other experience with the genre has been less than positive. That said, I'm open to considering fanfic if it is of a genre or subject I enjoy (Joanne Foxcourt's "The Queen Rider" is an excellent example, as is Poet Heather's Ranma fanfic, and again, EnemyOfFun's stuff, though missing out on references to heroes I haven't followed can be a pain sometimes.)

Welp, that's about it this round, I think. Gimme a few suggestions, maybe we can bounce some stories to read back and forth if you've got similar tastes to me.

Need Something To Read... Again.

Have you read any of Tigger's, Janet Stickney's or Dawn DeWinter's stories? They are all on Storysite.

Have you read Musetta's Waltz? Maybe, I don't want to know.

Hehe :P

You know? Sadly, I don't think I've checked any of your stories out yet. They generally looked a bit too deep and emotional for me to read comfortably. On the other hand, since you're a fellow Arkansan I should probably read them anyhow, solidarity and all that :P

I really like Marianne Wright

I really like Marianne Wright's stories. She posts on FictionMania. Her stories tend to be fairly long All but one on Fictionmania is complete. The newest (Have a Little Dream On Me) doesn't have a happy ending (it's not awful just not happy). Many of her stories involve a non-traditional TG protagonist. She's an excellent writer. I find her stories to be interesting and entertaining (mostly just really good). Be sure to look at the reviews for her stories that you are interested in. You'll find that several others agree with me.

The ones that have a male love interest include:
Terry and Robert
Keeping the Books
The Proper Ingredients
The Price of Royalty

Cbee: Thanks for the link! I've got three of 'em opened now to check out, I'll let you know what i think after I read 'em.

Donjo: I've been watching your career closely, my friend :P But, not in a creepy stalker way or nothin', promise! *hides binoculars*
I need to get back to "An Unbroken Mind" at some point, since I stopped reading it and I can't remember why. I read your first "Changing For Gym" story, but the concept for the second one didn't catch my attention as much, so I just kinda skimmed it, sorry! I haven't read your zombie story yet -- as obsessed as I am with zombie movies, I tend to avoid stories with them since they freak me out.

How do you feel about audiobooks?

I like the The Empress Sword. It is a fantasy story with a MtF lead.
The audio book is more like a radio play. Although only 14 chapters have been released, the author promised to continue after Balticon.

if you would rather read than listen, the print (or Kindle) version is for sale on amazon.

I also like Metamor City. It is a continuation of the Metamor Keep universe stories from the Transformation Story Archive. It brings the setting up to more modern times, so it is a mixture of fantasy and science fiction. There are some short stories and a novel. The novel has a full voice cast and sound effects.
