Science Fiction Recommendation

Forums:

It's 1/30/2024, and Ms Woolly's recent request for SF story recommendations has fallen off the front page, I wanted to add this one, but it took me some time to find the story again, on the Wayback's version of Sapphire's Place.

Anyway, this recommendation is for Skeleton Crew, by Bek D Corbin.

A VERY quirky presentation format; so much so that when I first saw it on there in the early 2000s, I don't think I had the patience for it the first time I tried. (It got posted in early 2003, apparently.) It's "hard SF" with a complex plot and would take a "sexual themes" tag (though IMO not a "CAUTION" warning).

But it's unique, even among Bek's stories. You might want to take a look. (Note on editing, from the comments page: Some metric conversions were mishandled, at least when posted initially.)

Here's the blurb:

Doctor Zheng was a burned out has been doctor, stuck on a run-down patched together star freighter that was just a slower than light boat to nowhere. He wasn't the man to save the entire crew from a horrible death. But maybe he is the right woman for the job.
