Yes, but they aren't likely
Yes, but they aren't likely to go away anytime soon.
High heels have been around not just for decades, but centuries. They've also moved back and forth between men's shoes and women's shoes.
In Venice, Italy, during the time of the Casse Vecchi, they had sumptuary laws, stating how grandiose the outside of your homes and boats could be. They also ended up passing laws limiting the height of shoes, as women had gotten to the point where they required two people to help them walk, and were at risk of falling into the canals and drowning (or contracting nasty diseases).
During the time of Shakespeare, and somewhat after, high heels were in vogue for actors (male), because they allowed well turned calves to be shown off to the audience. In fact, one of the 'schools' of theatre at the time emphasized side declamations. This is where the actor would stand facing one side of the stage, one foot straight ahead, and the other behind the first, facing away from the audience. This emphasized the calves.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
When I came out, my sister's first question was ...
"Have you ever worn high heels?"
(Both sisters had already told me when I began to tell them about Holly, "That is what we thought you wanted to tell us," and we'd had sme other discussion before the question was asked.)
My reply, looking down at my Men's size 13 wides was, "As Holly I have never worn anything else. I can't find any women's flats that are long enough, leave alone, wide enough in the toe."
In fact, until that point I could only find heels that fit if they were open toed, and with at least a 3 1/2 inch heel, so I was and am well able to walk in heels. Purely by coincidence, teh very next day I found a pair of Mary Janes in 15E, and now have 2 pair, black and beige.
Since then, I have found an online shop, Le Dame, www.ledame.com, with shoes for customers who wear a women's size 10 ½ to 17 (wide) or a men’s size 9 to 15 (medium). I fact, they size them as US Men's sizes to avoid confusion. They are upfront about being a suplier to the Transgender community. They have 11 styles of shoes, including lower heels flats, and Mary Janes, and 4 boot sdtyles from ankle length to thigh length. They also have a good return policy if they do not fit.
And no, I do not work for them. I'm just a satisfied customer.

A No Go at this staion
Sorry, but anything over two inches causes me to wonder where my reserve is. I'm bloody tall enough, thank you. Boots, on the other hand, worn with a nice long full skirt are my thing. A small heel, one to two inches is all the gee-whiz sex appeal I need.
