HI folks,
Today I discovered that a very smart friend of mine was unaware of a health risk he could be immunized for. I'm not talking about the flu's and all that but about shingles. It's a manifestation of the same virus that causes chicken pox, so if you've had chicken pox, you're subject to this popping up. It's an extremely painful rash that has no real treatment; you just wait it out. Fortunately, there's a vaccine available for those over 60 ( in the US...don't know about other countries). It's worth every penny, even if you have to pay out-of -pocket). You really don't want shingles, you really don't.
I'm not a healthcare professional but I am also not an uninformed person.
You can take your own route but at least I've tried to inform about the risks and benefits. Talk to your physician and see what your choices are. At least I've tried.

If you have had chicken pox then get the vaccine at any age. I had shingles at age 16 and now suffer with nerve damage in my left arm and 30% of muscle strength in my left arm. The worst part is that it periodically reactivates and get extreme pain and a rash which also aggravates my Fibromyalgia.

The new Shingles Vaccine, as with ANY new medication should be used with caution. I say this as a healthcare professional.
Please do not rush out for the vaccine tomorrow. I say this because the people that really need it, over 60 here in the USA, should be the first ones to recieve it. So if you are not suseptable to shingle outbreaks, wait a bit so that those that are get the vaccine first.
There is a simple and rather effective way to help prevent shingles. If you take 1-2 L-lysine tablets per day, it will help prevent the reactivation of the virus. If you look on all the cold sore and shingle medications, you will see that the main ingredient is L-lysine.
Biochemically it works by blocking the virus from getting into a cell and infecting it. This keeps the virus out in the blood stream for a longer period of time and allows your white blood cells to destroy the virus. Sounds simple, eh?
It truly is, but since there isn't a lot of money to be made from selling L-lysine, it tends to be forgotten about.
Eat right, drink plenty of WATER, and taking a multivitamin will help keep your immune system up and help prevent breakouts!!

I know this is being petty and I apologize. I've been following some serials that seem to have become "lost" in that their updates are few a far between; namely "Feminizer Disease"...","Prom Queen..." and "Changes...". I know authors have their personal lives to deal with and I respect that but taking too long between updates makes the chapters sometimes confusing as you have to go back and refresh from the last installment.
This is not a criticism or a "flame", just an observation. Others are probably delighted in following the current crop of stories that I just never got into.
Authors and administrators, please just take this as a minor comment about frustration on bringing a story along more frequently. I may be wrong, but, I can't believe that an author has written so much of a story and come to a complete halt. Maybe the next chapter is on someone's computer just waiting to be posted.
I look forward to updates of all stories, particularly the ones mentioned above.
