Yes people, it's back. I decided to check the site just incase and it connected once again. I thought everyone would like to know as I know a few of the authors who post here also posted on fictionmania before the site crashed. I also thought a some of the readers would like to know too.
hmmm
Err... you missed the wide spread announcements and huzzah'ing for the grand re-opening at the beginning of June then?
Err...
In my defense, my computer has been down since April. I'm glad that everyone knows. But I also searched for topics in the forum on Fictionmania to see if there had been any annoucement and didn't see one so I decided to make one just incase someone didn't know. Oh well.
I wonder... did they just
I wonder... did they just recover the .com URL? that might explain why I've seen a couple people say "they're back" in the last few days. When they did re-open, it was with a .tv URL.
Just Tried the .com
Fictionmania.com still times out for me.
Fictionmania might be back, but...
Aside from the speed, they don't seem to have improved on anything.
For one thing, it's like the difference between a library and a cafe.
This is a cafe. A place where you can come and hang out, chill and be with friends, where Fictionmania (bless) is just a place to get stories - a library.
The quality is generally better here too.

Cream de la cream
I have to agree. I've read stories on line for a while and generally speaking, the quality of the work here is better than several other sites, and the management is infinitely more accessible. Thank you Erin, Sephi, Bob and those I don't know about. :)

I just looked at Finctionmania once
... and wondered how it was possible to find anything to read in this mess. Surely, there are amazing stories in there, but you have to find them first, and I just don't know how. Categories are great, except they tell very little about the story, I don't find it very useful.
Here, you get the main page where all recent stories are displayed. You generally get an image as well that will let you enter in the mood of the story, and will makes you want to read it. There is no way you can get lost.
So, thank you Erin to keep this site living, and thanks to all those committed :)

Committed?
Speaking personally of course, I think perhaps some of us should be.

Using FM
I agree with the previous comments, it's more like a library.
I have used it before discovering this pleasant place.
I think each has it's own place in the resources available to people like us.
The only way I found to use it was to hit the grab bag, and then to look at the summaries and flags of what got thrown up. Usually, out of the six displayed I would find one that I considered worth reading.
Often, however, the story would be badly written or edited which would ruin it for me. That's one thing about BCTS: the quality of the story writing is much better, and it encourages oneself to try harder.

Fictionmania back?
I tried the link and it connected and let me get to the new stories page, but I was unable to open any of the stories, which was what was happening for me before. Not sure if it is my explorer, or what, especially if others can access the stories. Does not seem to be entirely back to me. CaroL

Fictionmania
FM works great for me. Blazing fast, no more time outs. Carol must have a browser problem, maybe some custom settings are messing things up.
If you bookmark "Display stories added last 7 days" You'll get all the latest stories for the last week.
