Hello Friends!!! ^___^ ;-D

You are not going to believe this. I get there Thursday afternoon. We try to figure out what is going on. First we get the blood test and chemo test results. The signs are all good. His activity number for the cancer is down 263. That is fantastic considering it was up to 3000 when he started the chemo therapy. All of his organs are functioning okay. His blood count is still good. It is 10 units or so, that is great. So we try to figure what he ate recently. He was okay for Easter, in good spirits and so on. Same thing for Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday he was pasty white. After discussing it around, apparently my dad requested to eat Chinese food on Tuesday. Well, it seems he can no longer have Chinese foods.

He had his gall bladder removed a couple of years ago, and now his large intestine is shorter. That means he can no longer eat fried foods. Plus, awhile ago he ate bunch of pork ribs. He got sick from that. Therefore no more pork ribs. If the chemo therapy does not kill him it will be the food that he wants that will kill him.

We are joking like crazy, he is joking back as well. We had relatives show up and they are thinking death watch. But no! It is bad indigestion from food. We had the invasion of the locusts from the relatives. Or 'here comes the clowns'. Then my dad request for some clown control as well. I had to help my dad roll into different positions to get the pressure off of his derriere. He developed some sores there. I did some cooking for mom, buy some groceries, etc. They appreciated my help there, that is for sure.

Of course you feel like death if you eat food that you can no longer digest. Either way, it will take time for him to recover. He can't wait to get better and be a 'terror in the wheelchair' again. The swelling in the legs will have to be monitor closely to keep the blood clots from forming again.

Well take care I will keep you all up to date.

Good news, Rachel

Dad sounds like a character, glad he's doing relatively well; I hope the good news continues for a long time.
It's good to have a decent relationship with them if it's at all possible, because some day...

I got a call from the VA cemetary in Fallon a week after my father was interred there. It was some detail about his plot. The woman had got no farther than, "It's about your father-"

when I asked urgently, "Oh my God! Did he escape?!!"

She started laughing so hard she had to hang up & call later. Dad would've liked that one...

~~~hugs, Laika
Dear Laika
That was awesome. I think I would have been incapacitated too.
As Laika said, that is good news. FWIW, I remember hearing some years ago that the heavy use of MSG in Oriental food prep can be a problem for those with digestive system problems. Something you might want to ask the doctor about.
I know the death watch situation, my mother has taken a turn for the worse a couple of times, only to recover somewhat. It's an emotional whipsaw.
Laika, shortly after my father passed away a few years back my brother answered the phone at Mom & Dad's house and it was some low level functionary at one of their stock brokers who wanted to speak to Dad. My brother informed him that our father had passed away, and the guy asked "When will he be back?". My brother replied "Are you a Christian?"
Delete the MSG
Hi Rachel, I don't know where you live, but out here in the wild west a lot of Chinese restaurants don't use MSG anymore. Look for ones advertising that they don't use it, and if you call out request that they don't. Healthy Chinese food can be very good for you because it's not over cooked and the meat is used more for taste than as a main ingredient. Good luck with your father, Arecee
Where do I live?
I live in Florida. I am near Orlando, the land of the Big Mouse House. I am in the next county north, Seminole County. Winter Springs if you want a name.
Thanks for the comment. We try to avoid all that MSG anyway. It was probably the oil that was used that did him in. It is tough way to find out what you can eat or not.
Digestion
Rachel
You may want to talk to your father's doctor and see if he can take Papaya tablets. It will help with his digestion.
I have a friend who had her Gall bladder removed at a young age. She took Papaya every time she ate fried foods and never had any problems.
