Hi everyone. I'm at work today and a little while ago a nurses aide came up to me and told me that a patient that she was moving a short time before had seen me and had thought that I was a girl. I love it. I guess that Growing my hair out and getting my ears pierced is starting to payoff.

Gender Mistakes
I'm not transitioning but I try to look somewhat feminine. I have very long hair and I wear hair bands and hair ties. I also wear a lot of androgynous women's clothing.
I've had men mistake me for a woman and then apologize after they hear me speak. That's always nice.
I've also had several small children (boys and girls) ask me if I'm a boy or a girl. That's always awkward. I'm never sure how to answer them. I don't want to confuse them any more than they already are. *sigh*

Maybe you should answer that question to them "I am undecided on that just yet" ..it might give them pause to think though for us it is not a choice/decision there is no harm in challenging other's binary thinking :)

Hi Terry,
I believe in being very honest with children. They often can see through an untruth by natural innocense. Kids these days are not so binary as other might think. Honest enquiry by children deserves an honest reply, I believe.

That's a nice feeling right there.
Getting "mistaken" in your gender identity is one of the nicest feelings I can get. I can't control my voice all the time, as it's exhausting (not that my voice is that deep to begin with), so I pretty much assume people realize my TG status. But knowing that people can't "read" you as your original gender, despite the flaws that you may see in yourself, is really nice. Shows you there's hope!

Its kind of funny... I remember back 15 years ago when I was still working up the nerve to "RLT".
I was out in a femmy jacket and sweat pants. I walked into the mens room... not thinking anything of it.
I was in basic "drab" as I called it. no makeup, no nails, no nothing except this flowery magenta on white jacket.
Two of the men at the urinals shouted. "Hey Lady! Wrong room!" You couldn't scrub the smile off my face with a grinder!
RLT started that day... I have never been back.

I remember I got a job just after going full time, I was still in my old name, unfortunately, so i applied for this bar job... went androgynous, jeans and a hoodie, hair pulled back, the usual... Even with an androgynous but msotly male name, they assumed me female... I just thought, hey? why bother with the red tape of coming out? so didn't!
Though in the job before that, i used to get drunk customers asking if i was a guy or a girl, my fav answer as 'yes' and walk off. :P
The key to passing is look normal, Women dont get full makeup on and high heels to go to the supermarket... in general... Heck most of my classmates at University attend classes in jeans, sneakers and hoodies or teeshirts.. and thats just the girls.
If you want to pass, you want to be normal... so be that, A lot of Ts women seems to feel the need to be extra femmy in dress and behavior to prove it to themselves and others... the one way to get clocked imo.... be apropriate, as for the confusion period, I loved that, the first time someone said 'hey Miss' i was over the moon :)
I pass all the time now, but i suppose the natural c cup doesn't hurt.

Why dress like everyone else mew? I'd rather walk out in full sweet lolita with my hair done in pigtails with cat ears mew!!! Non-conformist for the win ^^ But I totally agree with you on the extra femmy behaviour and dress thing, a lot of people tell me I"m naturally very feminine mew. But that doesn't make anyone who isn't, less of a girl. There are girls who are naturally feminine, and there are girls who are naturally masculine, there are boys who are naturally feminine, and there are boys who are naturally masculine mew ^^ Masculine or feminine doesn't determine your gender mew, it's just based on the stuff you like ^^ So just be yourself, and if you're like naturally very femmy or mascy, then just be yourself and go for it mew ^^

I've worked in call centers on and off for years. It always makes me feel 'good' when someone calls me miss or ma'am while I am helping them. Even when I introduce myself at the start of the call by my male name. I make no conscious effort to sound or speak in a feminine way it just comes naturally.
It's just a sign you are becoming more comfortable as your real self. Relax and enjoy. There are those of us who wish to be more open, but you can't disguise a Mac truck as a Porshe.
Enjoy the feeling, be yourself.
