I'm reading Charlene's Story by Lisa Elizabeth and another one of those damned 'niggles' is rolling around in my grey matter.
Everyone who writes a Season story seems to agree that Aunt Jane has helped close to 100 boys (and one real girl) get back on track with only the two misses. They also agree that age wise she is currently in her late 40's.
Given that and the fact that the average stay for a new student at Seasons House is six months or longer, not counting big sister time, we are looking at her being 'in businesss' for 45 to 50 years and that, as they say, just doesn't make sense.
I know, I know, it's fiction but even so!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Anne's thoughts. It would be impossible for Aunt Jane to have helped over 100 boys. Based on the stories, she has been running Seasons House for at most 25 years. (Starting at 25 when she left the school and being 50 now.) The course of study (yes, I will call it that - I'm sure others might have some other term for what she does - both positive and negative) runs at least 6 months, while others again based on the stories run almost a year. Since new students do not over lap and there always seems to be a break between students the most boys she has introduced Petticoat punishment to is 2 a year or 50. That would be an impressive number in itself.
I enjoy most Aunt Jane - Season House stories, so the fact that they use this number of students does not stop me from reading since it is a minor detail. However, my opinion about fiction, is that a writer should keep to reality as much as possible, when it does not effect the substance of a story itself. This would be that type of situation.
