A post linked to the Columbia Journalism Review daily newsletter today, from their website:
"Covering the Actual Story of Trans Lives: After an election in which trans communities featured heavily, guidance from the Trans Journalists Association."

I think I can accurately say that the CJR is the most read and the most prestigious item in its field in the U.S.. Columbia University in New York has a very highly-regarded journalism department; the publication -- in print since the 1950s but now online only, I think -- is affiliated with it. I'd never heard of the Trans Journalist Association or author Kae Petrin before, which probably doesn't mean much; I'm not active in the field now and was never more than tangential to it.

CJR
Yes, I think the CJR is a good publication on journalism. I expect, though, that its influence on the newspapers and journals of record is minor compared with power brokers behind the scenes.

Transgender is a Will O Wisp
Almost everyone knows about transgender. A lot of people talk about transgender. Power Players such as senators and medical doctors have a hard lock on what transgender is.
Sadly very very few truly understand and know what causes transgender. There is the real transgender, someone born with the opposite gender brain design than what their body looks like. There are those who are rebelling against society, their life, aren't really transgender at all. They are acting out. There are the transgender light who find emotional satisfaction in cross dressing and don't need to go any further. There body is okay and they don't want to change it.
Transgender is NOT a person is or isn't. There are thousands of degrees from suicide if no support and they can't become the gender their mind is driving them to be. To the idea is fascinating but they are happy with their life.
Most everyone wants a male or female transgender definition and that is the problem and why most can't agree. It's like saying if it has four wheels, an engine, and a body it's a car. I think we can all agree that isn't true considering all the various vehicles manufactured. Almost everyone wants to put their own stamp on what transgender is and they haven't a clue. There is no debate, no reasoning with anyone who has a closed mind. Their is only one first impression and most everyone had a first impression. Sadly it came from the swamp and the tabloids. The most frustrating of this is there are those born intersex, or those males who can't process testosterone. And yet they don't understand transgender is part of God's wonderful mosaic of all humans.

I'm a member of the Trans Journalist association. I was referred there by a friend when I was having issues dealing with some of the situations I was covering emotionally. I've found it to be a great, very welcoming resource.
