There is a bug or feature in persistent login. To do anything intrusive, you have to log out and log back in. The persistence is good only for reading and posting comments and stories and getting and sending PMs. Tracking or changing things or (sometimes) re-editing a story requires a re-login.

I was wondering...

I was wondering if it was just me.

I wasn't surprised when Drupal asked for a password verification. It surprised me when it wouldn't take my valid password, though.

By the way, I downloaded the latest (stable, supposedly ;-) ) version of drupal for educational purposes. I haven't done anything but look at the source code. It looks like learning PHP will be easy. :)

Anyhow, my hat's off to the administrators who have managed to learn the less-than-intuitive interface. Once I set up a computer that I can use to play with the system, I'll have to give it a go.

Problems with modules

erin's picture

I think the "bug" is caused by conflicting features in two different add-on modules. Persistent Login and Login Toboggan both make logging in to Drupal easier but seem to conflict with the core login procedure when used together. It's minor, so I'll put up with it and it may be fixed in 6.x which I will probably upgrade to early next year when it quits moving around. :)

Drupal is easily the best of the CMS's for my purposes with its multi-dimensional categorization and roll-your-own input types. More powerful tools like Plone, Typo-3 and Minerva, are also harder to use. PostNuke has better permission control but add-on modules for the *Nuke forks are too jungly, who knows what works with what else? Mambo/Joomla are missing some essentials, so far. WordPress is good and scales well but Drupal has easier to use categories and a more rigid structure -- using WordPress is sometimes like trying to build a skyscraper out of silly putty or like a Swiss Army Knife with forty-'leven tools but where is the Allen wrench? :) The *Wiki's are too slow.

Drupal is it.

(Funny note, Drupal is a nonsense word created (eventually) after one of the programmers typo-ed the Dutch word 'dorp,' meaning 'village' as 'drop'. Drupal pronounced by English speakers sounds like 'Druppel' in Dutch, which would be 'droplet' in English, and that's why the Drupal logo has a water drop with a face. :) Programmers is the craziest peoples. :D )

I Agree. I have been programing for years now. and some of the things I seen are very strange, but a lot of them are funny so don't be worried!! they are usually hidden jokes.
