Home page not accessable

Forums:

For the past two weeks, I have not been able to access the home page. I am able to access some other pages but not the home page, using a search. What is happening?

Hacked

Two weeks ago last Friday, the site was attacked through a code insertion exploit. Fixing this vulnerability required us to re-install our principle software. Things are mostly working again but there are glitches as we try to reconfigure our settings and defaults.

If you're still unable to reach the home page, I'm at a loss to guess how you have been able to leave a blog. Have you tried clearing the cache on your browser, closing it and then restarting it?

= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.

Maybe not

I access the site using a bookmark which points directly to the login page. When I am accepted I get a page which contains most of what is on the home page but not all of it. Specifically, I notice that the left sidebar is missing, there may be other omissions.

What I do then is use another bookmark to take me directly to the 'Track' page - less clicks than using the menu. After that I may look at the Blogs and Forum pages. It is only after those that I usually go to the home page to see if any new stories have arrived. I do things in this order because I know that new stories can soak up a lot of time!

TL;DR: It is possible to access the site and move around in it without going near the home page.

What others have said, especially that bookmark, ...

Then, to be as sure as you can be that problem is not at your end, do a 'cold reboot.' Complete power down (save everything first!) and reboot. (No, the 'Restart' option may leave crud in main memory...)

Oh! ... If you are using public computer (say a library), or a public network (coffee shop, library) they may have search filters that are blocking us.

Also, your browser might be set to 'safe search.'

Hope we have helped.
