Does anyone know of a medical plan that will pay part on surgery? Is there even one available? I hate to think that I might have to move to another country to get it done at a more reasonable price than the US. There has to be help for us!

I went to chon buri thailand and spent a month there with Dr. Suporn and his clinic. I had problems galore, but not through his fault. It was from my genetics of having been intersexed. I HIGHLY recommend going to him for the op. http://www.supornclinic.com/ is his website. He is super nice and made me feel like he was the father I never had. Very gentle and caring. My op cost 358,000 baht. combined with $1,000 to live off of for food and spending and $1300 for the round trip plane ticket i did very well.

Insurance and SRS
I am sure that if you look hard enough, you would be able to find an insurance policy that would cover SRS. I lucked out nearly 14 years ago when my employer instituted an insurance policy that permitted SRS with the complete following of all the rules set forth in the Harry Benjamin Standards of Care for Transsexuals. I went through the hoops for over two years and utilized the insurance to pay for my SRS. I later found out that I was only one of two people that made use of the policy to have my surgery. Five years later, my employer was bought out by another company and *THAT* inclusion on the insurance was removed violently by the then CEO of the new company. It seems that he was vehemently anti-gay, -trans, whatever. I feel fortunate that I had mine paid for even though I had to pay for a lot of things up to that point out of my pocket. It wasn't as bad as it would have been financially otherwise but still costly. I wish you luck in your search, you are really going to need it.

Here in California and a few other areas, Kaiser covers some of the cost leading up to it, and in some cities, covers the cost of SRS itself, ( FOR CITY WORKERS).
They are rumored to be preparing to extend that coverage and to begin offering the surgery in their own hospitals.
Blue Cross of California is also starting to provide some coverage, but not for everything. But 10, 5 years ago, there was no coverage for anything.
Elsewhere in the country, I do not know.
So we are getting there, but have not yet arrived, at least here.
