Author:
Hello from lurker land.
Age is creeping up on me so badly these days that I’m finding it hard to remember the author and where I read the story. This was a multi part story written years ago called Scrambled Souls. It’s really bad when a new series comes out and you follow it but then can’t get online for a couple weeks and then can’t remember the author of the series you just enjoyed. But then you find a new posting and find out that it’s in the series you enjoyed reading and go to read it and find out that you’ve missed 5 posts. I never thought I’d be one of those people that forget things so quickly if you’re not doing something but obviously I am. Then you find out that a story you were reading like, I Wish by Amethyst, is suddenly in Book 5 and you were just reading part 8 of book 2 and can’t even find that anywhere except Kindle. Life has gotten away from me lately and while I’m trying to get it back in line, it still passes by entirely too quickly.
But if anyone can help me find Scrambled Souls, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

This sounds like what you're looking for...
The first page of Google results for "Scrambled Souls" led me to a story on storysite.org by Julia Manchester. From the few paragraphs I read, the premise seems to be a machine that can pull human consciousness into a digital form and someone uttering "What could possibly go wrong?". Five words that tend to ensure something does go wrong in the most spectacular way possible. Link to the first chapter is here: http://www.storysite.org/story/scrambledsouls~01.html
If that's the story
There are 6 chapters posted, the last in February of 2007. Julia's page is accessible here:

Title?
Was that the definite title?
Could you say anything about the plot, the main characters, something else?

Scambled Souls
As far as my poor memory recalls, yes, that is the correct name. By clicking on the links provided, yes, that is the right story. I had really thought the story was on BC-TS and no where else. That’s what I get for thinking. I’m also getting small nagging tendrils of memory saying it was on Sapphire’s Place as well.
Thank you to those that provided the links. It’s greatly appreciated.
