Though it's been a few years it was as if Iona had never left.
She felt, sounded and acted as before. She has grown in her knowledge and powers while finding her way in this new life that was imposed on her by the original Iona. She is bright, funny, plucky, has a lust for life... oh my GOD does she, poor poor Bill -- and has a profound effect on those around her.
Like Julie_O's best characters -- and Bob Arnold's marvelous Jennifer Stevens -- she is a catalyst in other's lives. Read the story and you will see that with few exceptions, Roger's mom sadly is one, Roger as Iona makes the lives of those she knows richer and happier that the real Iona. In this story people make life changing decisions based on her influence/example.
We also get some interesting hints that Roger as Iona is different than Iona was both in her personality and her powers. It seems to me the amalgam of Roger's mind, his previously unknown family magical legacy, Iona's remaining memories and powers and possibly an interaction with that illegal magic tattoo Keir used to enslave and destroy the teenaged Iona, this new Iona is becoming more than the sum of her parts.
Very nice read.
