The following is a comment I made regarding the story linked below:
I take no joy in this. BUT
When his parents gave him a pass by skipping the all important duty to get him authentic help via a qualified professional, they did him and every single person he hurt when he was a teen AND his subsequent victims a GRAVE harm. His siblings were practically bullied into 'forgiving' his sexual abuse to them. I have no doubt that the baby sitter he molested was a member of their church, and likely was coerced into forgiving him as well.
The man who supposedly 'counseled' him assumed a mentoring role that provided little more than slap on the wrist, which was essentially a tacit endorsement. That man; yet another member of his spiritual 'covering, is in prison for his own child pornography offenses. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/joe-hutchens-child-porn-josh-...
Now Duggar has a wife who is expecting her seventh child, and she will likely be a de facto single mother for a long time to come, with likely only the same failed guidance provided by his spiritual 'guides.'
BOTTOM LINE? The church continues to focus on transgender and other members of the LGBTQ community; including his own hypocritical anti-LGBTQ history and the organizations for which he served. LGBTQ people who receive invective and worse merely for being themselves. And the simultaneous super-spiritual and dogma continues to fuel the failure to address sexual sin amongst them.
NEVER NEVER NEVER forgive an offense for which you hold no part. His crime, should it be proven to be true, did NOT start when he got out of his bogus rehab when his past was revealed. And once again? It is not some satanic cabal that is doing this, but family and friends and trusted people in the lives of sexual abuse victims.
The only thing I hope for is that his wife and kids are somehow separated from that HERESY, and that he gains a measure of mercy ONLY if he cooperates and reports his co-conspirators.

= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.
I'm Confused.
I thought it was one of the sons, not the father? Whoever it is, that will mean registering as a Sex Offender?
The son
Josh Duggars was accused of and admitted to molesting four of his sisters and a family friend/minor babysitter. He was around fourteen at the time and his sisters were all pre-teen. His father arranged for him to get help. not with professional intervention, but with a mentoring arrangement with a church member. Since the Statute of Limitations had expired by the time he publicly admitted after he was well into adulthood and only after it was revealed by a news article, no Sex Offender status could be applied.
The man who 'counseled' him ended up getting convicted on his own child porn charges a few years ago and is in prison.
Subsequently, he admitted to an 'adult' porn habit and marital infidelity. The 'rehab' program once again was faith based with zero professional intervention.
Bottom line is he never got professional help and here he is today.

Just... Ewwwwww!!
Trying to respond to this blog without lapsing into kneejerk bashing of religious folk.
Many secular institutions that are supposed to take care of kids have similar
crimes taking place in them.
To the extent that shit like this gets covered up,
making it seem like those running the show (literally in this case)
care more about the perpetrator and/or the image their group projects to the world
than the kids they claim to have such dedication to raising up in a happy,
healthy environment chock-a-block with godliness + Family Values...
their whole gig seems just plain rotten.
But I don't know that ALL OF IT can be attributed to evil intentions.
I think part of it is ignorance + naivety many involved display when they
have a pedo or other kind of sexual predator in their midst. They don't think
like a degenerate rapist and they have a hard time imagining how anyone could.
Little Josh's assaults on his sibling were a lapse; and gosh-diddly-darn-it aren't we ALL sinners?
On the one hand it's admirable to have faith so strong that you believe God can fix anything.
But goddamn it there's kids involved, and it might take more than a slap on the wrist or praying
about the situation to keep them safe from guys like him; especially when you never truly hold them accountable; and send them to counseling with someone who has no real training, and in this case
they probably just swapped "how-to" tips... Oh Fucking UGHHHHHH!!!!!
I hope the police + courts will be more effective than Jesus unassisted by any
real-world effort was in making sure the sicko never does anything like this again.

Knee Jerk Reaction.
I was raped around 14 by three boys in a County Emergency youth home. Much later in life, I was deeply religious and involved in Evangelical Church. I can't say how it happened but I got involved in Adult Porn, perhaps because my then wife was at work constantly, so no time for intimacy. I was so guilty feeling that I managed to get my own Castration, so it was not necessary to do it myself. That did not immediately end sexual desire, sadly.
These days, post SRS, and not in a Church, I know there are triggers that will arouse the old sins, so I know to just not go there. My opinion is that Churches are not a solution to almost anything. I still study the beliefs exhaustively from an academic perspective. Yes, the visitors of the Old Testament were Extra Terrestrials. Were they Gods? They will have to reveal that themselves and to me they have remained noncommittal. Any solution to our own sins will have to come from within.
Priorities
The priorities for the RC church when I was a small child were;
1.) An ever-increasing weekly collection plate $$$total.
2.) Power over the congregation that would have a positive impact on 1.)
3.) Fund-raisers.
It was no surprise when my cousin complained about having been raped by the priest and subsequently killed himself when no one believed him. Mainly it was no surprise because he was the second boy of his approximate age to go through that same situation with the same results.
People do bad things. When people do bad things there should be consequences. That is what society is all about. When a man incites a riot that ends in death and destruction he should be brought to justice or the system falls apart.
Society is about knowing the difference between right and wrong -- AND knowing there are consequences for doing wrong.

natural vs logical consiquences
If you run off a cliff you are going to fall. If you stub your toe it's going to hurt. Those are "natural" consequences. If you speed in front of a cop you are going to get a ticket. If you get caught robbing a bank you go to jail. Those are "logical" consequences.
Parents mostly use logical consequences with their kids. Clean your room or no desert. "If you don't shut up I'm going to smack you." The ideal is that parents do it to keep their kids safe. More often that we want to admit, parents impose logical consequences out of anger or as a way to manage power.
Right and wrong can be a lot more mutable than we might want to believe them to be. Injustice, oppression and prejudice might always be wrong but it is not always obvious to those who benefit from it. Over the centuries, hundreds of things, Maybe thousands of things that were once "wrong" are now "right". And the same is true the other way too. "Spare the rod and spoil the child." has mostly become "Never hit a child." An unspoiled wilderness is now seen as a garden left untended by people decimated by disease. A mental disease is now an innate attribute of a person. Crimes against god and nature are now loving relationships.
Society is about maintaining low conflict, order and predictability. Order is maintained by indoctrinating the ideas and ideals of the rule of law, a group identity, various ceremonies and pageants, and the long list of logical consequences for various acts and inactions. We are told that violating those rules will lead to consequences. We are told about the rule of law and how it applies to everyone. Yet, in practice we see now inconsistent the application of the rules are. Some people are more equal than others it seams. Some people seem to turn a blind eye to injustice but maybe they just can't see it through their privilege.
One of the reasons that protest works is that it creates conflict and disturbs the predictability. "Black lives matter." "You will not replace us."
"Stop the steal." "I'm less afraid of white insurectionists than I am of BLM and Antifa." When enough people share an ideal and are willing to disturb the peace to bring attention to it then we see changes in society. First society changes. Then the laws are adapted to reflect it. Society will redefine right and wrong to match.
In the long run I suppose it does not matter. The survivors will do just fine.

It's the Patriarchy
Any religion that forbids women from being leaders, either pastoral or lay, treats females as second class, lower that male. The males are more important thus the females are responsible for tempting the males and the males must be protected. This applies to far too many Christians and Moslems. Any male dominated institution will sacrifice women to protect men.
Boys will be girls... if they're lucky!
