A late Memorial Day posting.

For the past few years, I have had the custom of posting a short story honoring Memorial Day. This year I did something a little deferent. I took my new foster daughter to the following Civil War battlegrounds. Gettysburg, Antietam, Bull Run, and the Maryland Campaign. While we were not able to enter any of the museums and other indoor attractions. I was able to show her the battlefields thanks to something that I found on line. CDs provided by the National Parks that explain how, when, where, and why each battle was fought. Even though my foster daughter was taught about the Civil War in school she never had any real grasp of its scope. For the first time she understood the price that was paid by the men and women of the Civil war.

As my husband and I raise our yearly bottle of beer to our fallen brothers and sisters. I think about the real meaning behind Memorial Day. For far too many Memorial Day has become an excuse to party. Forgetting about the price that was paid for their freedom to act like morons. For those of us remember the meaning I salute you all. To our fallen brothers and sisters. Until we meet again at Fiddler’s Green.(raises cold mug of beer)
