It's also pretty much a waste of time.
Both the authors and the recpiients. Luckily the recipient doesn't loose QUITE so much time. Check box, delete, click click...
It implies that the recipient actually believes that the sender has a strong favorable feeling for the recipient, and will be hurt by the message.
Hate mail, and other hate activites, do NOT benefit anyone, even if they believe it does.

In my Oscar award winning life before life...when I was giving my best impersonation of a male...
I was driving up the Columbia River Gorge highway, and had my CB radio on, ya know, just in case, and heard the following exchange.
"Is there anybody out there that can tell me how to get to Bend, Oreeegon" from Biggs Junction?, An elderly sounding gentleman asked in a very twangy deep south voice.
"You G-D D--mn, F------ Hillbillies, stay the hell off the radio, this here is fer truckers"
"Ya hadn't oughta talk ta folks thata way son, it'll come back on ya"
At this the other person launched into a diatribe that I thought might melt the paint off the hood of my pickup. Next I heard a different voice, come out of the ether.
"Hey, mister, it already did come back on him, he's driving a truck"!
Then the air in the whole area got this amber glow like in Oklahoma right before a Tornado as the Trucker launched in the a tirade that made my ears burn. I quickly shut it off to spare the ears of my then napping spouse and daughter.
As another poster said, "These things have a way of coming around to bite you". Chin up!

A personal attack done in private and to what end? I just don't get it, though you don't say if this was a personal thing or an admin one on someone elses behalf, personal I presume. You have opinions as do I and everyone else that comes here. The odd argument or misconstrued wording will happen but a blunt 'you stink' that's just childish.
I must admit I dislike the idea of blocking someone but I guess there's always the exception isn't there. Far as I know no one has used that anywhere but then I probably wouldn't know and the idea that maybe I had upset someone enough to block me bothers me some. Would I know if it happened? I don't PM that much generally preferring to comment publicly so I can be called a dumb arse if someone chooses to, though most are too polite and I guess take my little occasional jibes at the universe with a sigh of she'll be okay later and don't take them personally. I hope so.
Emotion is good, passion is good, discussion is good, this place is all about stories and the things that affect the world and us that deal with a slight alternate take on who we might be compared to the dreaded norm. Norm's a real bugger.
Someone want to send me a narky message? I haven't had one for years, might give me a laugh, I'm in a funny mood lately.
Stay perky Edeyn, the coffees on and hopefully even where we disagree we can smile at it, I sure wouldn't send some dopey PM. Same goes for anyone here, reasoned discussion is cool, polite is the go. Petty bitching is just that. But then the world is what it is innit. Takes all sorts.

I agree, As many authors, including ones I do not edit for
regularly know, I do send many private messages to authors, but not for that purpose.
That is, well, mean is not a strong enough term for it, and I do not use the sort of language that does cover it.

It is a sad thing to see but Some people just don't care about anyone but themselves. I have seen stuff like this before and will probably see this stuff again. Mainly it is a person that is Jealous of the skills of another that pulls a sorry stunt like this.
