Forgotten author’s name

Forums:

Ok, this seems like a rather silly question, but I have been looking for an author who posted things years ago and I’ve been wanting to read the stories again. My memory is so stuffed with cotton that I can’t remember the name any more than Scott and what the stories names were, except one: The Female of the Species. I noticed a new posting today with part of the name but it’s longer but not by the author I’m looking for of course. Can anyone help me refresh my memory, please? Thank you

Jerrie

That’s it!

Thank you Erin. Although I don’t remember the name Breanna Ramsey, I could have sworn it was Scott. But that’s what I get for not being able to be around as much as I used to be. Thanks again.

I tried that

After I saw the question I tried that search 'cause it had been years since I'd read Brianna's stories. But searching "female of the species" gave me 52,000 + responses! After going through the first 25 pages of results I gave that up. Returning her I saw Erin's response that gave me the link I needed. I just finished "Genomorph" (an all-night read!). One of the best stories on BC!

Odd

When I did the search, I got 81 results. Did you have "the female of the species" inside quotes? Without quotes, you will get every use of the words female and species. With the quotes, you only get the exact phrase. If you did use quotes, I have no idea what is going on.

Uh, No

I use search so seldom anywhere that I forget the rules. I just typed: female of the species. I always drop the leading - the - and always use lower case. It usually works, on most sites anyway.

Search function

By trying to follow your instructions to do a search, I came up with a total sum of ‘0’ hits for the story. Why? Because I cannot find a search function anywhere based on the instructions. I have absolutely no idea where it is. My normal procedure is to look on the home page for new stuff and I’m happy with that. But this time, I was actually looking for old favorites and had absolutely no luck. Erin blessed my luck by posting the link. Thank you for the information, even though I still cannot find any search function.

Visual Noise

Daphne Xu's picture

One has various reasons for not seeing what's right in front of one's nose. Visual noise is one of them: there is so much to see around us, that we can't possibly notice everything. Our brain-power is simply not up to decoding everything. Those of us with dyslexia have the problem in spades. Something in our brains routinely switches things around, causes our attention to jump around, and does various other dastardly deed which suggest a death-wish.

I once saw a presentation years ago, where the speaker displayed a visual demonstration of how much brain-work is done processing what we see. A picture was shown, and then changed back and forth to change some feature. The feature was blatant -- nothing subtle about it. Yet the first time he did it, I never saw it. Meanwhile everyone around me was exclaiming over the picture.

He repeated the demonstration, and I finally saw it: someone was wearing jeans that shifted between ordinary color and bright kilt-colored. Yes it was blatant, but I only saw it a minute or so after it appeared. Yes, I was one of those exclaiming.

Hey! I knew this one...

Oh well, Breanna was a resident of the chatroom, but sadly like several others she's gone missing without a trace. Hope springs eternal that they're all alive and just have moved on. Loving Hugs, Talia
