August holidays
There were a lot of cousins born in the first three weeks of August and last week of July, plus two in late December, including my brother. So, the first Saturday in August was always a holiday in our family with a big outdoor party, usually up in the mountains since we lived where it could reach 115F on a sunny day in midsummer. :) The five of us with recent or imminent birthdays (two on Aug 5, one on Aug 6, one July 29, one Aug 20) and the two with unfortunate timing all got to name a favorite food for the feast and everybody got at least one present from somebody.
And it used to be the weekend of the San Diego Comicon which was what replaced the family holiday when most of us were grown up.
So, my birthday is still the only holiday in August: Neil Armstrong Day, Solar Day, or the actual date of Lamas if you use the old lunar-solar calendar. :)

New Sounds
I'm mostly staying at home this week, enjoying the new toilet my brother bought for me. The old one sounded like an asthmatic walrus on thorazine, the new one makes a noise more like a sasquatch giving Meryl Streep a hickey. Beauty, as they say, innit?
