Don't forget to take your mosquito for a walk twice a day, and find out if it likes Type O or Type A better. That's important, those Michigan mosquitoes get testy if they don't get their proper nourishment. :)

Skeeters and Bedbugs
leave me alone. Pleasant side effect of my medications is that I apparently smell repellant to insects, especially of the biting (and blood draining) types.
Good to be back... ish.
And yeah. I noticed.
"Oh, how I wish again..."
...wait, no, I don't. I hate cold snowy winters.
Oh, I enjoy skiing and making snow sculptures once in a while, and "doing donuts" in an empty parking lot is kind of fun, but then I enjoy coming home to where I don't have to worry about frostbite, or shoveling the driveway, or slush and mud in springtime.
I do miss Midwestern summers with their thunderstorms (and, yes, even tornadoes) and I miss fireflies and bullfrogs. But not enough to put up with the winters. And the mosquitoes.
Oh well. Sometimes you don't get a choice and you do what you have to do. If you don't hate the winters as much as I do it's not half bad there. Great lakes, as the license plates say.
So, what part of Michigan? Hold out your right hand, palm upward, and point with your left index finger....

Unless you're now a Yooper, then point out the location on the nearest leaping goat.
I don't really miss the summers (hot and humid) or the winters (cold and snowy). On the other hand, driving the ice ruts really gives you good winter driving technique.

Having lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, no one has to tell me about winter, snow, or summer time mosquitoes and biting flies. The up side is that you do appreciate the warmer weather a lot more and it isn't 100+. Foot of snow on the ground in the morning? "Oh, it snowed... Then drive to work as usual. :)
Welcome Back to the Great Lake State
You can hardly pick a better time to move here. The weather is lovely, and the mosquitoes aren't too bad. That is, there are only enough to carry you away if you way 120 pounds or less.
If you're ever in the Cadillac area, let me know. We can treat you to some recycled bugs... I mean farm fresh eggs. Also, if you need a kitty, we have two litters that are currently being well socialized by bevy of boys who give them lots of hugs and cuddles.

The thumb or Da Yoopers?
I will probably be up in Da Yooper for the next few days on a short vacation.
If you see tall balding man of fifty driving with his white haired dad of 81 in a light arctic tundra -- off green -- 4 door Focus, it's likely me. Will likely be off the boards for a few days.

It's been way too long since I've been to the U.P. The last time we were there, we canoed the Two Hearted River all the way to Lake Superior (& we got the t-shirt.) We also enjoyed some nice warm 80+ degree water in a shallow bay in Lake Superior. We went skinnydipping in the Tequamanon river, but that's not something that you would NOT want to see. heh.
Anyhow, since then, we have escaped the Detroit area and low live in Cadillac, which is about 60 miles south of Grand Traverse Bay (that bay between the middle and ring fingers.)
So, if you decide to get ambitious and cross the bridge, let me know. :-)

P.S. I learned to drink beer in Germany, so I don't do miller, bud, or any of that other watered down yellow swill. Canadian beer will do in a pinch, but I prefer real German beer, Frankenmuth (about the same,) or my own home brew. The trouble is, I ran out a while back and haven't gotten around to brewing more.
