I've just spent the last ten minutes or so looking at a few items from our writers here that are available on Amazon.

In each case, I see a small ad on the page which says: READ ON ANY DEVICE, then Get free Kindle app underneath. Is this legit?

It just seems odd as Amazon lists scores if not hundreds of Kindles for sale through the site. I know they do, I've looked occasionally, as I've thought about getting one, but the cost for the decent ones is way too much for me in most cases.

It is legit

Even though

Sis and I have 5 Kindles between us (don't ask) I also downloaded the free Kindle app for my PC and read there too when I feel like it.

I also have the free app on my desktop and laptop computers. I also have two Kindle readers that I bought my parents five of six years ago, and as the are now deceased, they're mine again... I keep one in the downstairs bathroom and the other by my bed, as they all sinc with each other.

Okay, so I bought the readers, but the apps are free.

There's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes!

Reader App

Like Tanya, I have the app on all my machines. My laptop, that is serving in place of my defunct desktop, runs Vista and the app works fine. I also have it on my Samsung Galaxy S-5 smartphone and Samsung Tab 2 tablet. All work great. I also have the Barnes & Noble app. I got a first gen. B&N reader way back when and being registered with them I get good deals from time to time. The Kindle app handles lots of different file types and I often use it to read non-Amazon stories I've downloaded on my phone.

I use the free apps

The kindle apps are legit and allow you to read any Kindle book that you buy from Amazon.

free Kindle app

It appears to me by crazypagangurl's original post, that it was interpreted to mean that Kindle books were free with the app. No, you still have to purchase the individual books (or subscribe to Kindle Unlimited), you just use the app to read them on a non-Kindle device.
